The India Poker Series (IPS) was founded by poker enthusiast Bharat Agarwalla who wanted to make India conversant with the mind sport. In April 2009, the very first version of the IPS was held in Kolkata and attracted a small crowd consisting of 37 participants. The first national-level edition was held later the same year in December.
After many months of struggle and proper planning, IPS was held in Casino Royale, Goa in the month of April 2010. Since then, 20 Chapters of the series have taken place giving rise to a number of Indian poker stars with the last edition of the series taking place in June 2013.
