Zhou Yun Peng Clinches First WSOP China Bracelet

The inaugural World Series of Poker (WSOP) China series recently concluded after seven days of grueling poker action. WSOP and the world's fifth largest Internet company (in revenue) Tencent had signed a 10-year partnership that saw WSOP extend its reach to China.

The final day of the event saw the six survivors return to play down to a winner and in just three hours, a champion emerged in Zhou Yun Peng (cover image). Peng claimed the first WSOP gold bracelet ever awarded in Asia, lifted the Champions Cup and pocketed the top prize of CNY 2,414,000 (approx. $367,000).

Post his win Peng revealed to WSOP officials that this was his first live poker tournament. Peng studied the game by reading books and watching videos for a few years and as fate would have it, he will forever be remembered as the first WSOP gold bracelet winner of the Chinese soil.

Peng immediately got down to business by taking out his first victim of the day in Ni Cang Sheng after the latter shoved with and Peng called tabling a better to eliminate Sheng in sixth place.

Wu Xin was the next to fall after he 4-bet all in holding and the eventual runner up Long Rong called with . The board blanked out and Xin’s dream run ended in fifth place.

Li Xiang Lai was the next player to fall and action saw him open and Zhang Jian Bin three-bet. Lai went all-in with and Zhang called with . The board showed no support for Lai who exited in fourth place.

Next up, Peng’s were up against Zhang Jian Bin’s and the latter was sent packing after the board spread out .

With that, the heads-up battle between Peng and Long Rong commenced. First Peng doubled up with pocket deuces and on the last hand of the event, he was once again dealt against Rong’s . Peng was ahead preflop and further improved to a one card flush on the board to enter the history books as the first-ever WSOP China bracelet winner!
