The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) has always captured the limelight as one of the biggest poker extravaganzas in Europe. As the 2018 edition of the WSOPE continues to witness big wins and electrifying action, it was the €1,100 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold’em that saw it`s second starting flight run its course with 204 entries. The play concluded with two Israeli players leading the 56 survivors. While Asher Assis bagged the largest stack of 349,000, Michael Magalashvili (cover image) is close behind with 325,000 in chips.

Rozvadov is fast becoming the favored poker destination for Indians in Europe and after the successful debut of The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) this year, the King’s Casino has already seen several seasoned Indian challengers in attendance at the ongoing series.

After Rakesh Lalwani’s two cashes in the €550 COLOSSUS NLHE that earned him a cumulative ₹2.58 Lakhs, Manish Goenka’s sixth place finish in the €550 PLO, and Bharat Janardhan’s deep run in the €1,100 Turbo Bounty Hunter where he finished 10th for ₹2.49 Lakhs, the €1,100 Monster Stack NLHE saw three Indian challengers, namely, Madhav Gupta, Rakesh Lalwani and Shravan Chhabria in action on Day 1B. Unfortunately, all three of them failed to make the cut for Day 2. Janardhan who had entered the event on Day 1A, where carried forward a stack of 126,500, remains the lone Indian still in the hunt for the title. With another flight opening up soon, we can expect some more entries from Team India.

Day 1B Recap

Action kicked off on Day 1B with the first elimination coming in within the first five minutes, when Viacheslav Ivanov was shown the door.

Indian pro Madhav Gupta was among the early exits from the tournament while Rakesh Lalwani was eliminated in Level 10. Following him to the rail in Level 11 was Shravan Chhabria.

Lalwani day saw its full share of swings as he scored an early double through Cord Garcia with his pocket queens improving to a straight against the latter’s ace-king.. He chipped up to 40,000 after the pot but then lost another hand to Garcia after a few hands, to see his stack dwindle.

Another player to be relegated to the rail fairly early in the day was Jeff Madson.

Shaun Deeb who entered in Level 11 was eliminated on the first hand he played. As Deeb sat down a few seats over from Allen Kessler, the latter joked about Deeb had to land at his table, of all the ones in the room. “You just gotta tip the staff well,” Deeb responded, “Is that the largest stack since you got here, Allen?” However Deeb didn’t last long on the table. As he moved in with 38,400 from the big blind, Gudmundur Sigurjonsson limp-called from under the gun for his last 28,500 as did Asher Assis from early position. Sigurjonsson tabled versus Assis’ and Deeb’s . The flop fell and Sigurjonsson flopped a three-of-a-kind to take the lead. The turn and the river kept Sigurjonsson in the lead and he collected the pot, while Assis took down the side pot and Deeb was eliminated. “Who is that guy?” Sigurjonsson joked, after the hand.

Others who failed to progress further include Manig Loeser, Michael Soyza, Martin Kabrhel, Dutch Boyd, Allen Kessler and Romain Lewis.

Assis was keeping to a chip mark of around 200,000 for the latter half of the day, but he rose to the top on the last hand of the day where he scored two knockouts.

Other familiar faces who will be returning on Day 2 are WSOP bracelet winners Anthony Zinno (73,500), Bertrand Grospellier (79,500) and Maria Lampropulos (56,500), Stoyan Obreshkov (154,000), Fahredin Mustafov (184,000), Anson Tsang (205,000) and Timur Margolin (260,000).
