Lansing, Michigan-native Dash Dudley (cover image) has been playing poker since he was a teenager and boasts of 37 cashes including five final table finishes at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). A bracelet win was the gaping hole in an otherwise illustrious poker resume, and Dudley can finally cross that out from his wish list after winning that coveted gold bracelet in Event #52: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship. Rising atop a record field of 518 entries, Dudley not only won his first WSOP title but also added a hefty $1,086,967 to his bankroll!

Dudley had taken charge right from Day 3 which he ended as the chip leader with eight players remaining. But for the cash game specialist who prides himself for his PLO prowess, it wasn’t a smooth ride to the bracelet, as he went down to as low as eight big blinds when three-handed play began. Two double-ups pushed Dudley back into contention, and he never looked back. Dudley also had to deal with another well-known PLO maestro, UK’s James Park, heads-up but he didn’t take long to get past Park.

A boisterous rail that included his fiancé Racquel and mother Kimberly Dudley kept his spirits up all through the ups and downs on the final table. “Last night I prepared for that actually, I really feel strongly about my short stack game and I have been short-stacked for years. People have been making fun of me, I even said ‘it is no more Min Cash Dash’ as I was playing for the win,” Dudley said, adding that it was his mother who taught him to play poker.

“It is kind of a funny story. The reason I play cards is because of her, primarily. She used to have a game way back when I was 13, 14 years old. They played Dealer’s Choice, I watched for quite a bit and finally, I decided to jump in and try it out … and they crushed me. They were playing No Limit Seven Stud, it may be the only No Limit Seven Stud game in the country.”

The field had already crossed the 494-player mark on Day 1, setting a new attendance record for the event. With 26 more entries coming in on Day 2, a prize pool of $4,869,200 was generated.

The top 78 finishers were assured a min-cash worth $15,029, and some of the notables who finished in the money include Sylvain Loosli (14th for $45,229), Luke Schwartz (21st for $30,532), Shaun Deeb (24th for $30,532), and Anthony Zinno (54th for $17,837).
