The WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam played out at the Holland Casino Amsterdam Center recently. Running alongside the €1,200 Main Event that eventually crowned a champion in Felix Schulze, the €2,200 High Roller was another tournament from the WPT stable that kept the action going. Outlasting the 133-strong field at the event was Steve O’Dwyer (cover image), who took down the event along with a paycheque worth € 72,905.

O’Dwyer tangled with Marcel Goldenbelt heads-up, and though he was trailing the latter in chips, he covered the distance to clinch the title.

Day 1 of the event attracted 123 entries with another 10 joining the action on the second and final day, generating a total prize pool of €258,020. The top 17 places were assured to take home at least €4,965 in prize money.

Day 2 saw 51 players return to the felts and the field size trimmed down swiftly within the first few hours.

It was Johan Rensink who ended up hitting the rail on the money bubble. In a three-way showdown, Paul Berende took down the pot with pocket queens on the rundown where Rensink held and Teun Mulder tabled .

Among the notables who fell out post-bubble was Chino Rheem (15th for €4,965) who found his pocket aces lose to David Boyaciyan’s flopped two-pair.

Final Table Recap

The first casualty on the nine-handed final table was Noah Boeken who left in ninth place after running his pocket eights into John Geenen’s pocket queens.

Firoz Mangroe crashed out in eighth place, and Paul Berende left next, in seventh place, after his failed to catch up to O’Dwyer’s .

Shortly after that, John Geenen was eliminated in sixth place holding against Sandro Pitzanti’s that improved to a flush on the rundown .

David Boyaciyan went out next, in fifth place when his failed to get any help from the board against O’Dwyer’s .

Next to go was Christian Pielich who had an unfortunate end in fourth place when his all-in move with a pair of tens found a caller in Marcel Goldenbelt who had pocket queens. Though Pielich’s hand improved to a set on the board, so did Goldenbelt, and with his set of queens, Goldenbelt collected the pot, eliminating Pielich in the process.

The three-handed play saw Goldenbelt scalping another victim with his pocket sevens ruling over Sandro Pitzanti’s on the runout .

The heads-up play between Marcel Goldenbelt and O’Dwyer began with Goldenbelt holding a dominating two-to-one chip lead, but the latter doubled-up fairly early to even out the difference. It did not take O’Dwyer long to get ahead and not long after that the final hand was dealt. All the chips went in the middle with Goldenbelt holding versus O’Dwyer’s , and the board ran – O’Dwyer completed a wheel and with that became the latest WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam High Roller champion!
