Vitor Coelho Outlasts 446 Entries to Clinch the WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Main Event Title For $120,419

The four-day long WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville Main Event drew in 446 entries creating a prize pool of $602,100 at the Casino bestbet Jacksonville in Florida. Outlasting the competition was Vitor Coelho (cover image) who took down his first WPTDeepStacks title along with $120,419 in first-place prize money.

The Tampa, Florida native was the final table chip leader, and he continued his domination all the way to the title. He made quick work of his heads-up opponent Richard Kirsch and went on to claim not only the title and top prize but also a $3,000 WPTDeepStacks Championship Package!

“In my mind, I was going to win this tournament,” Coelho said of his win. “So, I was very happy to get it done.”

“It’s great. I’ve been here before and everybody has been very nice,” Coelho commented after the win. “They have been very accommodating, and it was a great three days.”

The former restaurant owner turned poker player has been playing the mind sport for the past ten years and described his style of play as ‘aggressive’. “For me, it’s always a rollercoaster because I play different every hand,” he said of his style. “So, it’s hard for many of the players to put my on a hand.”

Out of the 56 players who finished in the money were notable names like Peter Vitantonio (10th for $10,215), David Perez (13th for $8,477), Kenny Kemple (18th for $6,944), Michael Jagroo (26th for $3,984) and Li Zhou (30th for $3,301).

Final Table Recap

Short-stacked Bill Thompson was eliminated early on at the start of the final table. He fell at the hands of James Reed when the former’s were cracked by Reed’s which bettered to a pair of aces, leading to Thompson’s ninth place exit.

Soon enough, Roman Paje followed Thompson to the rail when his was busted by Tyler Payne’s .

The lone female player at the final table – Diane Casino – was the next player to be eliminated. Casino pitted her against Richard Kirsch’s . With the board showing , Kirsch flopped a set of kings to eliminate Casino in seventh place.

Finishing in sixth place was James Reed when his failed to hold on against David Jolicoeur’s .

10 minutes later, Jolicoeur claimed his next victim in Jeremy Sanders who was up against the former’s . The board fanned out and Jolicoeur’s stronger pair of kings ended Sanders’ run in fifth place.

Down to four-handed play, Tyler Payne‘ s ran into Vitor Coelho’s , eliminating the former in fourth place.

The battle to reach the heads-up continued between Coelho, Kirsch and David Jolicoeur for almost two hours before Jolicoeur’s were bested by Kirsch’s , resulting in the former’s third-place elimination.

The final showdown between Vitor Coelho (7,300,000) and Richard Kirsch (6,075,000) began with Coelho enjoying a slight lead over Kirsch. It did not take too long for the proceedings to wrap up for the night.

On the final hand, Coelho opened from the button with , and Kirsch called with . The flop fell . Both players checked to see the turn . Kirsch led out with a bet of 500,000 and Coelho raised to 1,300,000. Kirsch called, and the on the river completed the board. Kirsch announced all-in and Coelho promptly snap-called. Both players had rivered flushes, but Coelho’s king-high flush won him his career-first WPTDeepStacks title, along with a top prize of $120,419 which includes a $3,000 WPTDeepStacks Championship Package.
