The World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia is slated to close out a hugely successful edition at NagaWorld today. The stop has entered the history books for a record-smashing turnout of 750 entries in the $1,100 Main Event – a new WPT Asia-Pacific record!

The penultimate day had an action-packed schedule. A total of 148 runners returned to the felts on Sunday for Day 2 of the Main Event. Only 94 players were to collect a payout, and the players jostled to find a spot in the money. Play picked up the pace considerably post the money bubble, and by the time the bags were brought out, only nine players remained standing in contention to win the top prize of $131,460 (~₹94.37 Lakhs). Towering over the nine-handed final table was Malaysia’s Kai Fu Wong (4,700,000 – 78 BBs).

Sunday brought with it a mixed bag of results for Team India. Eight Indian players were returning on Day 2, but only three among them could survive past the bubble. Making the deepest run was India’s latest WSOP champion, Abhinav Iyer. With 92 big blinds, Iyer had started the day among the big stacks, but his deep run ended in 20th place. A seasoned hand at big international tournaments, Iyer eventually went out on a cooler with his pocket jacks losing to the pocket queens of Alex Lee. Iyer’s performance earned him a hefty payout of $5,885 (~₹4.21 Lakhs).

Day 2 of the WPT Cambodia $1,100 Main Event began with 148 qualifiers (Day 1A – 34, Day 1B – 43, Day 1C – 72), with only 94 places paid. The bubble burst on Phanlert Sukonthachartnant, who lost the race with ace-eight against two callers. His elimination left the remaining players guaranteed to earn $1,593.

The play picked up pace after the bubble, and a slew of eliminations quickly narrowed the field down. The play concluded with the formation of the nine-handed final table that saw Malaysia’s Kai Fu Wong (4,700,000 – 78 BBs) bagging the overnight chip lead.

Eight Indian players came in to play Day 2 of the Main Event. Only three of them managed to cruise past the bubble, and making the deepest run of them all was WSOP bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer. However, it was in Level 22 that his downfall started as Jaruplavath lost a crucial hand to Peter Leworthy. He then ran into his opponent’s to bow out in 41st place ($2,975 – ₹2.13 Lakhs).

Rounding out the Team India scores was Romit Advani, who’d brought 40 big blinds to Day 2. Advani had managed to sail past the bubble but was busted shortly after that. He went short-stacked after a three-way all-in clash with Takao Shimizu and Jae Kyung Sim. Though Advani survived the hand, he was down to crumbs and busted shortly afterward in 94th place to earn $1,593 (~₹1.14 Lakhs).

The remaining five Indians, namely PokerGuru Ambassador`s Kartik Ved and Madhav Gupta, Meherzad Munsaf, 2018 WPT Vietnam Main Event champion Dhaval Mudgal and Paawan Bansal were eliminated empty-handed.
