The complete schedule for the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is finally out, with the latest announcement of a record nine online bracelet events being added to the roster! Since December last year, numerous announcements regarding the 50th anniversary edition of the WSOP have kept media sites busy with speculations rife about the final schedule and finally the veil has been lifted.

Previous Updates

In December 2018, WSOP made the first of its many announcements, staring with the dates for its 2019 series while also announcing that a total of 78 bracelet events will be held between May 29 and July 17 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

This was followed by 13 more events been unveiled, including changes being made to the signature events at the WSOP – The Colossus and Mini Main Event. By January 23, details of a total of 73 events were clear and just a week later, on January 30, WSOP added seven more events to the roster, taking the tally to 80 bracelet events.

On February 13, ESPN and Poker Central announced that they would once again be taking up the mantel of providing video coverage of the series. Both brands released a preliminary live telecast schedule for the WSOP 2019 series which includes the start-to-finish daily coverage of the WSOP Main Event.

Nonetheless, online events were notably missing from the roster. The tournament organizers had earlier said that this year’s schedule would feature more online events, and they have come through on their word. The 2019 WSOP will feature nine online bracelet events which is almost double the number of online events from 2018.

Record 9 Online Bracelet Events Added to WSOP Schedule

In a press release dated February 20, WSOP.com announced that the brand will be offering nine different online gold bracelet events during the 2019 series.

WSOP Nevada representative Seth Palansky disclosed that WSOP.com will host weekly online bracelet events on Sundays throughout the series. Plus, two more special events will take place on select Wednesdays.

WSOP is the oldest online poker operator in the U.S. since it first launched its services in the virtual domain back in 2013. Up until 2018, the global poker brand had only offered four online bracelet events to participants, however, this year the world’s biggest poker festival is offering nine gold bracelets through online events.

The schedule for the online bracelet events is as follows:

Commenting on this year’s online events, WSOP.com Head of Online Poker Bill Rini said, “Just like the land-based WSOP, the annual summer series is also the best time for online poker players in the U.S. to chase big prize pools and WSOP gold bracelets. WSOP.com is offering a consistent gold bracelet schedule this year, plus non-stop satellites to both the online and live events, giving players the best opportunity to participate in the 50th annual WSOP.”

Satellites are currently underway for all WSOP events. The special $215 25 Seat Scramble satellite, which guarantees 25 seats into the WSOP Main Event, is scheduled for June 30 at 4pm.

Impact of Wire Act on Online Gambling

In October 2017, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced that along with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Delaware Governor John Carney, an agreement has been reached that will allow iGaming customers in their three states to play against each other in a shared player pool.

Based on this decision, WSOP for the first-time allowed players from New Jersey to participate in online bracelet events which results in an increase in the number of entries and prize pool in the online events last year.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) released a revised opinion on the relevance of the Wire Act to online gambling. According to the new legal opinion, the DoJ has iterated that the prohibitions of the 1961 Interstate Wire Act are applicable not only to sports betting but also to most forms of interstate online gambling. The new DOJ opinion effectively reverses a 2011 OLC opinion that led to a number of U.S. states launching online lottery, poker and casino products for their residents.

This opinion may have some severe ramifications on the number of entries in the nine online events, as it casts a doubt over the legality of interstate liquidity sharing. In such an eventuality only players within Nevada may be permitted to play in the online events, leaving out those in New Jersey.

Terms & Conditions For WSOP Online Events

The press release also stated the rules and regulations that all players have to keep in mind while participating in the events. Players must be 21 years of age, and physically inside the borders of an eligible state, however, they do not have to a resident of the state to register for play or participate, but all game action must be done while inside state borders.
