Triton Poker Montenegro: Steve O’Dwyer Clinches First-Ever Triton Title in Event #1: NLHE Turbo For HK$3,458,784 After Heads-Up Chop

The Triton Poker High Roller Series Montenegro had a successful start with the series-opener Event #1: NLHE Turbo attracting a total of 34 entries, including 11 re-entries, at the Maestral Resort & Casino in Budva on Monday.

American poker phenom and high-stakes regular Steve O’Dwyer (cover image) emerged victorious after defeating some of the biggest names in the business, including his friend and heads-up opponent Isaac Haxton. O’Dwyer is currently ranked 11th on the All-Time Money List with total live MTT winnings of $27,496,163.

Presently a resident of Dublin, Ireland, O’Dwyer dominated the final table action, orchestrating the eliminations of Sam Greenwood and Linus Loeliger, en route to his heads-up against Haxton. Soon after the heads-up play convened, O’Dwyer and Haxton began discussing the possibilities of a heads-up chop and eventually agreed to O’Dwyer taking HK$3,458,784, since he had a 2:1 chip lead over Haxton, while the latter was assured HK$ 2,901,216. Ultimately O’Dwyer outlasted Haxton to win his first-ever Triton title and added another HK$ 3,708,784 to his illustrious poker resume.

Slated to run till May 17, the series will play out 11 events, with the HK$1 Million Triton Montenegro No-Limit Hold’em Main Event schedule to kick off from May 8.

 

Final Table Recap

Beh Kok Weng eliminated Wei Lim Chin in seventh place. Chin was followed to the rail by Dietrich Fast who was eliminated in sixth place by Isaac Haxton and became the tournament bubble.

The final five runners were all slated to finish in the money and the first player to do so was Canadian pro – Sam Greenwood. His lost out to Steve O’Dwyer’s , leading to Greenwood’s fifth-place exit.

Beh Kok Weng had lost quite a bit of his stack early on and soon enough had to leave the final table when his were bested by Linus Loeliger’s pocket queens. Weng walked out in fourth place.

Linus Loeliger didn’t last much longer either. The online pro’s two pairs were no match for O’Dwyer’s turned straight, resulting in Loeliger’s third-place exit.

The heads-up between Steve O’Dwyer and Isaac Haxton commenced with the former enjoying a more than 2:1 chip lead. The duo decided to strike a heads-up chop, wherein O’Dwyer collected HK$3,458,784, and Haxton locked in HK$ 2,901,216, leaving HK$250,000 and the trophy to play for. Haxton did manage to close the gap significantly, but in the end, it wasn’t enough, and eventually, Haxton surrendered the title to his good friend O’Dwyer.

On the final hand, Haxton limp-shoved with and O’Dwyer called holding . The board bricked for Haxton and O’Dwyer took down his career-first Triton title for a top prize of HK$3,708,784!
