In more ways than one, The Indian Poker Series (TIPS) Winter Edition has been a phenomenal success. While dedicating an international poker series to Indian players was the core idea for founders Jaydeep Dawer and Manish Goenka, TIPS has succeeded in offering a unique, affordable platform to poker playing talents from India, as well as Europe.

The inaugural run of TIPS in August last year saw an encouraging response and the Winter Edition, currently underway at the popular King’s Casino in Rozvadov has already smashed past records.

A large Indian contingent is already in attendance at the series and with five final table finishes, two titles and two runner-up scores, the Indian campaign can already be declared a massive success.

Like most events at the stop, a big group of Indian challengers was seen in action at the Main Event that played out a total of five starting flights. A total of 20 Indians advanced through to Day 2 among the 278 survivors. The event is fast striding towards an action-packed finale with only 17 players left standing in the race. Three among the final 17 are Indian`s namely, Pulkit Goyal (76,35,000), Tarun Goyal (35,45,000), Gaurav Gupta (18,45,000). Pulkit Goyal is second in chips behind Israel’s Kfir Tubi (81,95,000) while Tarun Goyal rounds up the top 10 stacks heading into the final day.

The impressive field of the Main Event also reflects the series’ growing popularity in Europe. Although that the event saw its buy-in increased from €220 (₹17,302) to €315 (₹24,774), the five starting flights registered a record field of 1,417 entries (includes 605 unique players and 317 re-entries). Apart from Indians, there was a healthy mix of players from many countries, most noticeably from Israel and Germany. The weekend proved to be the busiest for the players looking to enter the Main Event and with re-entry permitted, many of them fired multiple bullets. Right after the first three starting flights got over, the two remaining flights ran their course, leading to Day 2.

If flights Day 1A to Day 1C attracted 603 entries and left 139 players standing – 13 among them Indians, Day 1D saw 337 entries come in, and five Indians namely, Manish Goenka (344,000), Gaurav Gala (282,000) and Sameer Tavanandi (276,000), Jaydeep Dawer (121,000) and Avinash Tauro (99,000) made the cut for Day 2 amidst 59 survivors.

Manish Goenka

Day E was a turbo flight and added 337 fresh entries, and 85 of them carried forward, including Shreyas Voodari (298,000), Vineet Kumar (214,000) and Loveleen Singh (118,000) from the Indian contingent.

Day 3 was equally tough and exciting. A number of Indians picked up scores in the Main Event, namely, Sameer Tavanandi (22nd for €2,896 – ₹2.27 lakhs), Avinash Tauro (29th for €2,079 – ₹1.63 Lakhs), Satyam Verma (42nd for €1,526 – ₹1.19 Lakhs), Team PokerGuru Ambassador Arjanveer Chadha (55th for €1,526 – ₹1.20 Lakhs), Sanjay K (61st for €1,309 – ₹1.02 Lakhs), Rahul Kumar (74th for €1,105 -₹ 86,840), Jayant Yewale (88th for €1,105 -₹86,840), Satyam Raj (120th for €873 – ₹68,573) and Ankit Kapoor (118th for €980 – ₹76,978).
