In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round-up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

With the end of the year nearing, the poker world is gearing up to bid goodbye to 2018 in grand fashion. While the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Finale, Manila (November 27 to December 6) has already begun and 2018 PokerStars Live Jeju Red Dragon (November 30 to December 9) is just days away, the new year will bring with it the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) 2019, Paradise Island (January 5 to 16) and MPN Poker Tour – Tallinn, Tallinn (January 24 to 27). But for now, let us take a look at the week that just passed us by.

After the resounding success of the 2018 World Poker Tour (WPT) India, another action-packed live series was seen playing out. The 2018 Asia Poker League (APL) Road Series Vol. 3 was hosted at the Pro Poker Club in Vietnam’s favourite poker haunt, Ho Chi Minh City. Like always, a number of Indian players were seen in action and the Indian participation was headlined by Abhishek Paul, who posted two of the total three Indian scores at the poker festival. Paul first took down the Hyper Turbo event for VND 34 Million (₹1.05 Lakh), and followed that up with a 27th place finish in the Main Event for ₹1.61 Lakhs. While Paul added an APL title to his kitty, Sumit Sapra did even better at the series, taking home the biggest score in the High Rollers event where he finished third for VND 849,230,000 (₹25.65 Lakhs). For this, he is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

The virtual felts witnessed a lot of action this week with several big names winning the high-value tournaments on premier online sites. While Vikram ‘Prison M!ke’ Singh won the Highroller NLHE ₹10 Lakhs GTD on PokerStars India for a smashing ₹2.26 Lakhs, Vivekk ‘Vivek25’ Dube juggernauted to the top in The Bout ₹10 Lakhs GTD on India’s most trusted poker site, PokerBaazi, for ₹2.10 Lakhs. However, it was the high-stakes cash game pro Raman Ifryu Gujral who stole the show by topping the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹15 Lakhs GTD for a whopping ₹3.58 Lakhs in first-place prize money.

On the domestic front, the casino industry seems to be on the receiving end of the fury of the newly formed Goa Women Forward (GWF) who have demanded the removal of casinos from River Mandovi. On a lighter note, Finnish high stakes poker pro Patrik Antonius announced his plans to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of Delta Corp onboard Casino Deltin Royale in Goa on November 30.

We wrap up this week’s recap with tournament reports from APL Road Series Vol. 3, GUKPT Grand Final Main Event, Master Classics of Poker €1,500 Progressive Bounty, WPT Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open, Unibet Open Dublin Main Event and WSOPC Planet Hollywood.
