In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round-up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

Live tournaments have truly captured the attention of railbirds in the domestic and global circuits, and Team India’s story has been glittered with thunderous performances. And as another week of exciting poker action awaits, it’s time to reflect on the thrilling action this past week.

Vietnam has always been a fertile ground for Indians and continuing the trail of deep finishes from the World Poker Tour (WPT) Korea and Vietnam editions, our Indian challengers have kept the heat going at the Pro Poker Club in Vietnam that is currently hosting the 2018 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam. Just as 25 Indians headlined by World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder Nikita Luther gear up to return for Day 2 play in the VND 6 Billion GTD Main Event, two Indians, Sajal Gupta (4th for ₹4.37 Lakhs) and Amanpreet Singh (6th for ₹2.58 Lakhs) posted scores in the widely popular Monster Stack event.

Back on home turf, the third edition of the Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT3) ran from October 4-8 at the Baadshah Gaming poker room aboard Casino Pride over River Mandovi in Goa. Despite the fact that participation numbers were lower than expected, possibly due to a large part of the Indian contingent staying back to attend APT Vietnam, several familiar faces were seen in action at the series. Mentees of India’s poker veteran and Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal dominated the action at BLT3. While Young Gun Ashish Munot took down the ₹15K Bounty for a payday of ₹2.25 Lakhs, the ₹75K High Roller 6-Max was won by another of Agarwal’s protégé, Jayjit Ray for ₹9 Lakhs. First Lady of Indian Poker Shuchi Chamaria who happens to be Agarwal’s better-half, and yet another of his mentees Kartik Ved were among the top runners in the ₹35K Main Event that was eventually taken down by WSOP bracelet winner and our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”, Aditya Sushant. Sushant won his second BLT Main Event title by claiming victory at the ₹35K Main Event, after striking a heads-up deal with runner-up Guneet Kwatra and went on to boost his earnings by ₹8.85 Lakhs. Meanwhile, both Chamaria (4th for ₹3.25 Lakhs) and Ved (9th for ₹90,000) made it in the money at the event.

The virtual felts saw several high-value tournaments awarding huge payouts, and overshadowing all the winners was Lakshay ‘BaazigarIV’ Grover, who took down Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) ₹15 Lakhs GTD SuperStack for the top prize worth ₹3 Lakhs. Premier online poker site MadOverPoker conducted its first-ever Rehab tournament that attracted 223 entries and found a winner in Kshitij ‘TheG0dfath3r’ Kucheria, who won ₹85,285 in prize money.

Meanwhile, Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s newest poker venture, Poker Raj is currently hosting the MTV Pro Hunt that is slated to conclude on October 14, and will be followed by the MIPL Season 3 on October 23-24 in Mumbai.

In other headlines, several crucial developments made an impact to the Indian gaming industry. While the Goa cabinet approved a six-month extension to the offshore casinos currently operational on river Mandovi, under the condition that they submit an unconditional undertaking to relocate, President of India, Ram Nath Kovind gave formal assent to the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Amendment Bill 2017 that brings wagering or betting on games of skill like rummy and its online versions under the ambit of dangerous activities.

The international tournament circuit is gearing up for the upcoming, WSOPE Rozvadov from October 9- November 2 and Coolbet Open from October 16-21, while the ASPC Asian Circuit Incheon that kicked off on October 5 is scheduled to continue till October 14.

We wrap up this week’s recap with tournament reports from the 2018 APT Vietnam, Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT) third edition and partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK.
