In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

The past week was again a busy one for poker-denizens with lots of action, both live and online and it promises to be a hectic month ahead for players as well.

Live action seems to be the mantra and Indian players continue to forge into new frontiers, making greater impacts at global tournaments. At the ongoing WSOP Europe, Indians made a grand entry, right from the start of the series. Sumit Sapra made a deep run in the €2,200 Pot-Limit Omaha event finishing 15th for €4,121 (~₹3,10,936). Similarly, Simon Mint (201,500), Harsh Shori (111,000), Devesh Thapar (106,000), Sacheen Ramchandani (92,500) and Rahul Marwaha (82,500) got down to business making Day 2 of THE COLLOSUS. Anujkumar Kodam cashed in the event for his 42nd place finish pocketing €1,017 (~₹76,673). Its surely one of the biggest live series with a big Indian contingent in contention and it can definitely be expected that the scorecard will keep ticking as the action unfolds further.

On the other hand, the 2017 ACOP closed out another grand edition with Alan Lau proving his talent yet again as he shipped the headline Main Event and even won the APOY title for an unprecedented second time. The series attracted 5,986 players and awarded over HK$166 million (~US$21.3M) in prize money over its 17-day schedule.

The action is sure to escalate further, this time in the country with the inaugural WPT India set to unfold next week (November 7 – 13) onboard Deltin Royale, Goa.

India was equally shining at the online felts with this weeks` ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title taken by none other than Anmol ‘bemyfriendpls’ A Srivats. Srivats takes this title for a third time in a row now thanks to his consecutive winnings totaling to over $14,000 this past week!

The online action on the domestic front continued non-stop with Khelo365 CEO Vinod Manoharan penning down a letter addressing some major changes and an exciting year-end promotion. Adda52’s DOPT series closed out another successful outing with Bhola ‘bhola’ Sharma taking down the Main Event for ₹10.8 lakhs, Archit ‘Flyingmuck’ Khandelwal won ₹5 Lakhs after shipping the PokerBaazi ‘Baazi Super Sunday (₹5 Lakhs GTD to 1st, ₹15 Lakhs GTD)’.

Meanwhile, Match IPL’s team Delhi Aces hosted their first try-outs in the capital city this week with the final team expected to be announced soon and Delta Corp Ltd. signed a MoU to operate the Marriott Kathmandu casino.

Moving into international territory, a lot has occurred in poker land with happenings like PokerStars revamping their MTT schedule, Pennsylvania passing the landmark iGaming bill, partypoker winning the EGR Award along with releasing its Live MILLIONS Schedule, Winamax buying Italian gaming license and Phil Ivey losing his appeal in the London edge sorting case.

We are back yet again with a weekly report of the biggest online cashes by the Indian MTT community and what a week it has been for one particular player. Well, we are not rambling, just that this week belonged entirely to Anmol ‘bemyfriendpls’ A Srivats. His exploits started when he won $7,188.16 for 1st place in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: The Eliminator – $25K GTD PKO’ and he went on to cash another $1,932.00 for his 3rd place finish in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: Eliminator Turbo – $10K GTD PKO’.

He further added $1,001.36 for a 19th place finish in the Party Poker ‘High Roller: $50K GTD Turbo’ and cashed $1,314.00 for 4th place in the Party Poker ‘Heavyweight: Eliminator Turbo – $10K GTD PKO’. Recently, Srivats won $1,446.90 for 8th place in the Party Poker ‘High Roller: [Special Edition] – $50K GTD Turbo’. His latest cash came when he won $1,211.31 for 16th place in the Party Poker ‘High Roller: $20K GTD Turbo’ and with all these scores, he takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title for a third time in a row!

PokerStars’ MTT Schedule Revamped

Online giant PokerStars has recently introduced major changes to its weekly tournament schedule through an official blog. The changes include the introduction of new tournaments and modifications to existing tournaments. However, there was no change in the rake structure.

Khelo365 CEO Vinod Manoharan Announces Major Changes

Changes weren’t seen only internationally as the go-to Indian online poker portal Khelo365 started a brand-new leaderboard race (October 25 – December 25) offering unbelievable prizes including cars for top finishers along with hefty cash prizes and an all-paid New Year’s party. Khelo365’s CEO Vinod Manoharan recently shared the reasons for relocating the year-end extravaganza to Pattaya from Sri Lanka in an open letter.

Match IPL’s Team Delhi Aces Host First Try Outs

The national capital team of the inaugural Match IPL i.e. Team Delhi Aces is owned by young and enthusiastic poker-loving entrepreneurs. The team hosted its first tryouts on October 28 wherein pre-registered and shortlisted candidates battled over three sessions. The final team will be announced soon where players will be selected on the basis of points, attitude, match poker ranking and years of play/reputation in the game.

Delta Corp Ltd. to Operate Marriott Kathmandu Casino

India’s only BSE listed gaming company Delta Corp Ltd. recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nepalese company Everest Hospitality and Hotel Pvt Ltd to operate the upcoming flagship Marriott Hotel Kathmandu’s casino after a license from the government of Nepal is acquired.

Pennsylvania House of Representatives Passes Landmark iGaming Bill

In a major development in USA, Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed the landmark iGaming bill, which allows online poker, online casino, and DFS within the borders of the state. With this new development, Pennsylvania has become the fourth state to legalize online poker in the country.

Phil Ivey Loses Appeal in London Edge Sorting Case

This week came as a major blow for Phil Ivey’s London edge sorting case as he lost his appeal made against Crockfords Club that had withheld £7.7 million in winnings. He admitted detecting small irregularities and using for his advantage when he was playing Punto Banco in 2012.

This week also saw partypoker winning the ‘Poker Operator of the Year’ award at the EGR Operator Awards 2017. With this, partypoker broke the three-year winning streak of PokerStars. partypoker has also announced the 2018 LIVE MILLIONS schedule which guarantees over $100,000,000 in prizes between now and December 2018.

Winamax Purchases Italian Gaming License of bet-at-home

French online poker site Winamax recently bought the Italian gaming license of bet-at-home ahead of the eventual European shared liquidity player pool. Winamax will now get access to the Italian gaming market, which it had abandoned in March 2015 due to “Italian legislation on gaming”.

WSOP Europe

Czech Republic’s King’s Casino near the German border in Czech Republic is currently crackling with poker action with the ongoing World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe now well underway.

The series has awarded five coveted WSOP bracelets till now with Andreas Klatt & Martin Kabrhel, Theodore McQuilkin and Lukas Zaskodny clinching the gold this week.

ACOP 2017

The 2017 Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) hosted at the PokerStars Live Macau poker room came to a successful close on October 29. As expected, the festival went on to become a grand success shattering all records. All in all, it attracted 5,986 players and awarded over HK$166 million (~US$21.3M) in prize money over its 17-day schedule.

Hong Kong based pro Alan King Lun Lau grabbed all the limelight and for the right reasons. Lau closed out a successful year in style by becoming the first player to be crowned Asia Player of the Year for an unprecedented second time. Lau took down the headline Main Event after topping the 308-entry field.

Paul Petraglia Wins WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble Jacksonville Main Event

The WPT bestbet Bounty Scramble Jacksonville’s headline $5,000 Main Event attracted 323 entries with the top 41 players making it in the money. The last man standing after besting a tough final table was Paul Petraglia who pocketed $300,732 top prize, his first WPT title and won a $15,000 entry into the season-ending WPT Tournament of Champions.

Roberto Carvallo Wins 2017 Punta Cana Poker Classic Main Event

The 2017 Punta Cana Poker Classic $1,650 Main Event attracted 382 hopefuls to create a $555,810 prize pool that was shared among the top 45 finishers. Topping them all was Roberto Carvallo who pocketed $97,590 for his finish after a heads-up deal with Jamin Stokes.
