In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker,’ we bring you the weekly roundup of the most significant online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week’s top stories

It was a week of dazzle and festivities for the Indian sub-continent that kept busy with Deepawali celebrations. For most, this was a time to celebrate with family and friends, and card games formed a prominent part of the festival with poker high on the list of favorites!

Just as the excitement of the live tournament`s started to simmer down, the action on the virtual felts began to gain ground. Spartan Poker was the platform of choice for the tournament regs. The online site closed out another successful edition of its Spartan Super Series (SSS) last weekend. The former MoneyMaker champion Anujkumar ‘aatman108’ Kodam had the brightest Diwali in the circuit as he came out on top in the most prominent event at the SSS. Bengaluru-based Kodam bested a field of 1,275 entries to take down the SSS Main Event – The ₹1 Crore GTD Millionaire. Kodam’s phenomenal run fetched him ₹22.75 Lakhs, making him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

The tournament made not one, but two millionaires with Vikaash ‘viks82’ Shah walking home richer by ₹13.32 Lakhs as well for his runner-up finish. That`s not all – the SSS Millionaire had three former champions – Eka ‘gettingthere’ Vedantham, Shashwat ‘Shash26’ Agarwal, and Nitish ‘buttonclicking’ Gupta, on the final table gunning for an unprecedented second title. Eventually, all three fell short of the title, with Agarwal finishing fourth for ₹6.98 Lakhs, Vedantham placing sixth for ₹4 Lakhs, and Gupta collecting ₹3.05 Lakhs for finishing seventh.

Beyond The Millionaire, several other SSS events rewarded winners with hefty sums and ‘moZart’ (SSS #24 High Roller ₹50 Lakhs GTD for ₹12.62 Lakhs) and Harshad ‘omglukbox’ Barve (SSS#17 Destiny ₹35 Lakhs GTD for ₹9.76 Lakhs) were the prominent winners.

Another standout performer this week was PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot, who has been unstoppable ever since he won the WPT India Main Event title. Munot final tabled three major’s this week that included winning both The Endeavour on PokerBaazi and the Mega Suits on Adda52 for a cumulative ₹10.34 Lakhs in prize money.

It was an otherwise slow week for live stops, especially with regards to Team India updates. The only notable mention here is the 12th edition of the WSOPE that is currently playing out at the Kings Casino in Rozvadov. There are a few Indian players in attendance, and while the team`s scorecard has eight scores at the stop, PLO specialist Jagdeep Singh was the only desi contributing to it this week. Singh finished 40th in Event #11: €2,200 Pot-Limit Omaha to win €3,210 (~₹2.52 Lakhs). The series is on the home stretch now with the €10,350 Main Event down to the last 42 players.

In other developments, Casino Big Daddy owner Gopal Kanda won the assembly elections from Haryana’s Sirsa constituency in Haryana to become the country’s first casino owner to contest and win an election.

A few updates came in from the U.S as well, where the South Florida-located Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Hotel and Casino opened its new 450-feet tall, 36-storeyed Guitar-shaped hotel tower. Moreover, online poker in the country seems to have found a voice of support in Democratic Presidential candidate Andrew Yang who is advocating for the legalization of online poker nation-wide.

With the WSOPE winding up on November 4, the attention will soon shift back to Asia, where the final edition of the year’s APT Vietnam is scheduled to kick off on November 6. The series offers VND 14 Billion in guaranteed prize pool this time, and already, many Indian players have finalized their travel plans to Ho Chi Minh City, where once again, the Pro Poker Club will play host to the series. The next stop of significance will be the World Poker Tour Cambodia (Nov 16-25).

Online Railbird Report

Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire 1 Crore GTD came to a thrilling close last weekend, and outlasting the 1,275-strong field at the event was former MoneyMaker champion Anujkumar ‘aatman108’ Kodam. Kodam’s blistering run earned him ₹22.75 Lakhs, making him our “PokerGuru Star of the Week!”

Also joining the millionaire’s club was eventual runner-up Vikaash ‘viks82’ Shah, who pocketed ₹13.32 Lakhs for his close finish.

To say that it was a star-studded final table would be an understatement as there were three former Millionaire champions gunning for a second Millionaire title at the event, namely, Shashwat ‘Shash26’ Agarwal, Eka ‘gettingthere’ Vedantham, and Nitish ‘buttonclicking’ Gupta. While Agarwal finished fourth for ₹6.98 Lakhs, Vedantham collected ₹4 Lakhs for placing sixth, and Gupta placed seventh for ₹3.05 Lakhs.

‘moZart’ (SSS #24 High Roller ₹50 Lakhs GTD for ₹12.62 Lakhs) and Harshad ‘omglukbox’ Barve (SSS#17 Destiny ₹35 Lakhs GTD for ₹9.76 Lakhs) were the other prominent winners at the SSS.

PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot was another player who enjoyed a very productive week. The Chennai-based pro has been on a run of a lifetime ever since he won the WPT India Main Event title earlier this month. The excellent form seems to have followed him online as he collected ₹10.34 Lakhs from three final table finishes last week. This included two title wins – the more notable of the two being the Adda52 Mega Suits that he won for ₹6.20 Lakhs.
