In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

The past week seemed more like a straight rush into the race pit of action, and that too all over, online, live, in India and across the world!

Well it sure was a hell of a week with hefty cash up for grabs as India’s most trusted poker site PokerBaazi played host to India’s biggest online poker tournament – The MoneyMaker 2.0 which went on to shatter all previous turnout records and set a new benchmark. The event drew 1,248 entries, which was topped by 22-year-old Devesh ‘Isildor1’ Thapar who collected the first-place purse worth ₹30.57 lakhs and is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

If we talk about online poker, PokerStars can simply never be omitted. This time around, the site had a bunch of exciting news in store. For all those interested in the high stakes action, PokerStars is currently hosting its inaugural High Roller Series with $11.4M in guaranteed prizes. German prodigy Fedor ‘crownupguy’ Holz grabbed the limelight once again by winning the High Rollers 01: $2,100 NLHE, $1M GTD for $178,498. Meanwhile, PokerStars’ weekly Sunday Million closed out another grand event and Paul “pvas2” Vas Nunes managed to take down the event for a second time!

Apart from the High Roller series, the popular $1 Million Red Spade Open also returns to PokerStars and is set to kick-off next week on December 4. PokerStars also announced the schedule for its first live series of 2018 i.e. PokerStars Caribbean Adventure that will unfold at the Atlantis Resorts in Bahamas.

This week, we will witness another thrilling extravaganza onboard Deltin Royale Goa as the Deltin World Gaming Festival (WGF)is set to unfold from November 30 – December 4. India’s largest online poker site Adda52 will be hosting exciting poker and rummy tournaments for WGF. Three of the biggest events will be the ₹8 lakhs GTD WGF Knockout (December 2), ₹10 lakhs GTD Sunday Suits (December 3) and the ₹30 lakhs GTD Mega Suits ((December 3).

The month of December will also bring forth the first-ever Baadshah Gaming Live tournament at Casino Pride in Goa from December 7 to December 10.

The past week witnessed a bunch of new and exciting announcements, from news of a new U.S. Poker Open tournament series at Aria next year to Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather signing up as presenter of Wild Poker app. Louise Butler joined Team partypoker Ladies and two Dutch pros i.e. Steven van Zadelhoff and Rolf Slotboom were inducted into the coveted Dutch Poker Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, a mystery online poker crusher “cumicon” announced his retirement from the game this week and posted an incredible $7.4 million profit graph.

This past week, the live action ranged across borders with several tournaments taking place and reports are in from the Caribbean Poker Party Festival, 2017 PokerStars Festival Hamburg, Fall Poker Open, Master Classics of Poker Amsterdam and last but not the least, the WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood.

It was another historic week for online poker in the country with India’s biggest online poker tournament i.e. The MoneyMaker 2.0 making a grand return. The event went on to surpass all turnout records and was taken down by Devesh ‘Isildor1’ Thapar who pocketed the lion’s share of ₹30.57 lakhs and for this he takes our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Vaibhav ‘Kill_619’ Sharma won $596.46 for 342nd place in PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Million, $1 Million GTD’

The $1 Million Red Spade Open Returns to PokerStars Dec. 4

Online giant PokerStars is bringing back the popular $55 Red Spade Open with $1 million guaranteed on December 4. This year’s first place purse has not been disclosed as of now and it is unclear if the bounties offered on Team pros will make a return or not.

Adda52 To Host Exciting Events Both Online and Live for WGF

India’s largest online poker site Adda52 has come up with a Weekend Poker Series for the upcoming World Gaming Festival (WGF). Headlining the series will be three big events – ₹8 lakhs GTD WGF Knockout, ₹10 lakhs GTD Sunday Suits and the ₹30 lakhs GTD Mega Suitswith a cumulative ₹48 lakhs in prize pool guarantees. The Live-Online hybrid series will also feature a special live event named ₹50K DPT Express with ₹25 lakhs GTD that will be held onboard Casino Deltin Royale on November 30.

2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Announced

Online giant PokerStars has announced the schedule of its first live event of 2018. We are talking about the 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which is slated to run between January 6 – 14 at the luxurious Atlantis Resort Paradise Island in sunny Bahamas. Headlining the schedule will be the $10,300 PCA Main Event alongside two High Roller events.

Floyd Mayweather Signed Presenter of Wild Poker App

This past week, Floyd “Money” Mayweather signed a deal with social casino games developer Playtrex and mobile games publisher Hero Digital Entertainment to become the presenter of a new play-money poker app called Wild Poker. Mayweather will be integrated into the game both as a character and as a presenter.

Irish grinder Louise Butler was inducted in the Team partypoker Ladies Online Pro Team joining the likes of Natalia Breviglieri, Kristen Bicknell and Beata Jambrik. Butler got introduced to poker while she was in university and is currently ranked the number one Irish female poker player in online tournaments.

Caribbean Poker Party Festival

Excitement was at its peak this week as the beautiful Melia Caribe Tropical was playing host to the Caribbean Poker Party Festival which crowned its big winners. The headline $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event was attended by 1,061 runners and featured a massive $5,145,850 prize pool. Topping them all was Sam Greenwood was in sublime form at the series and his trailblazing run saw him collect three final tables including this one. He banked $1,000,000 in cash for this victory.

Running alongside the Main Event was another featured event – $5,300 MILLIONS Finale and besting the strong field of 215 entries was Spain’s poker phenom Adrian Mateos who pocketed $250,000 for his finish.

2017 PokerStars Festival Hamburg

Two big winners were crowned at 2017 PokerStars Festival Hamburg that unfolded at Casino Schenefeld. Outlasting the 567-entry field in the Main Event was Germany`s Ulrich Pauls who defeated Michal Lubas heads-up to claim the €105,850 first place prize money.

Darren Elias Wins Fall Poker Open Main Event

US-based pro Darren “End Boss” Elias claimed his second Borgata title this week after winning the Fall Poker Open Main Event where he outlasted 473 runners to pocket the first-place purse worth $293,062.

Claas Segebrecht Wins Master Classics of Poker Amsterdam Main Event

The Master Classics of Poker Amsterdam 2017 Main Event concluded this week and became the biggest poker tournament ever hosted on Dutch soil. The event attracted 264 hopefuls to create a €1,128,600 prize pool. At the end of play, German high roller Claas Segebrecht defeated Belgian poker phenom Bart Lybaert heads-up to win the title and €235,087 in prize money.

Fernando Galvan Wins WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood Main Event

The WSOP Circuit Planet Hollywood Main Event hosted at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas concluded with Mexico native Fernando Galvan bagging the title after defeating Corey Hochman in the heads-up battle. Galvan banked the top prize of $247,160 for his efforts.
