In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

It’s been a happening week, with several historic developments, such as the return of PokerStars to the US market with an official launch in New Jersey, besides its huge 10th Anniversary $10M GTD Sunday Million that took place on March 20. India`s Anmol ‘arsenicistheansr’ Srivats took 485th place for $2,207.86 while ‘SammyBigstac enjoyed the deepest run, eventually finishing in 178th place for $6,803.09. ‘SammyBigstac‘ and his score of $6,803.09 claim our “PokerGuru Star of the Week” title.

Domestic players will have another bonanza with the upcoming PokerGuru Online League (PGOL) that returns for its second edition of Season IV, with a largest-ever prize pool of ₹35 Lakhs across 20 events and the headline event at the series will be the ₹5,000 Main Event with ₹20 Lakhs in prizes.

In live tournaments, we have the Asian Poker Tour (APT) coming up from March 23 to 31 2016 at the Hotel Inter-Burgo Casino in Daegu, South Korea.

Going on to other historic developments, Nagaland finally passed its Online Games of Skill Bill and Casino Deltin Royale along with IPC made it into the history books of World Records India, for five different categories. The action will continue at the Deltin Royale poker room with a new High Stakes Cash Fest announced for the coming holiday weekend.

Other news reports include increase of licensing fees for casinos in Goa, PokerStars increasing rake and the launch of a new mobile app, Jackpot Poker, 888poker signing a new brand ambassador and three tournament reports from the World Poker Tour (WPT) Vienna, WPT Rolling Thunder and the Chicago Poker Classic (CPC) Main Event.

‘SammyBigstac‘ scored $6,803.09 at the 10th Anniversary $10M GTD Sunday Million on PokerStars for 178th place and is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week.” Canada’s ‘a.urli’ was the ultimate champion, taking home $970,000 after a four-way deal. The special 10th Anniversary Sunday Million lived up to the buzz and recorded a whopping 55,059 entries leading to a massive $11,011,800 prize pool, recording it as the third-largest prize pool at the event in the last 10 years. The top 8,208 places were paid, which is probably more than the entry field at most Sunday Millions.

Young Gun Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover was on a roll this weekend and almost topped the cashes list with three final table finishes in 26 hours. But he narrowly missed it with a cumulative $6,000 in cashes! Just back from his international travels at Amsterdam, Prague, where he played ACOP, WPT and EPT stops; Grover tweeted all about his online exploits,

Pranay ‘mitarachi89’ Kapoor who made 2nd place for $2,802.60 in the PokerStars ‘Omania $33 [PLO], $12K GTD’

Anil ‘BigBlufferAY’ Yadav collected $2,056.16 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$8.80 NL Hold’em [6-Max, Turbo], $10K GTD’

Akash ‘proFISHnal’ Malik finished at 43rd place in the PokerStars ‘$530 Sunday 500, $275K GTD’ for $1,600.00

Dhaval ‘dhavalzoso’ Mudgal won $1,596.65 for 25th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Warm-Up, $400K GTD’

riverG’ made 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $8.80, $20K GTD’ for $1,216.86

Nitish ‘AA_suited90’ Gupta made $1,074.74 for 43rd place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday 2nd Chance, $175K GTD’

And, Abhishek ‘abhi147’ Rathod made $1,305.20 in the TitanPoker – €8,000 Sunday Pearl for 2nd place.

 

PGOL – New Edition, Bigger Than Ever!

Casino Licenses Hiked In Goa Budget 2016

Goa, however, had bad news for casinos, as the 2016 budget brought another hike in licenses for casinos. This is the third consecutive increase, which is almost double going up to a crore for casinos per annum.

The most significant happening was the official return of PokerStars to American shores with a fully approved license in New Jersey. Players rejoiced, as did stakeholders in the industry, as this certainly impacts the poker economy positively. Increase of Rake In Some Games

Simultaneously, PokerStars increased its rake in certain games.

Rake Changes

• Spin & Go rakes have been increased by 1% for $1 to $30 and 2% in $3 buy-in. Rake for buy-ins of $0.25, $60 and $100 remain unchanged.

• In multi-table tournaments, rebuys and add-ons will have fees, just like an original entry. These tournaments comprise 12% of the main schedule according to PokerStars.

• MTT hyper-turbo rake has been increased to 5%.

• Cap and percentage of rake would be increased in certain no limit and pot limit ring games, mainly heads-up. Some rake caps would be lowered. Limit games would remain the same.

Vlad Darie Wins WPT Vienna Main Event

The WPT Vienna ended its Main Event with Vlad Darie taking the title after a long and tough heads up against Zoltan Gal for €170,800.

Paawan Bansal ensured India left its mark, with a second place finish in Event 2 for €2,000, as well as a cash in Event 5 for €2,300.

The event also saw the culmination of the California Swing Championship, which was won by Ankush Mandavia. The championship awards points to players participating in all the California spots and the winner gets a number of WPT goodies.

 

Harrison Gimbel Takes Down WPT Rolling Thunder

The finale of the WPT Rolling Thunder was a thrilling one, with Harrison Gimbel denying two-time WPT champion Mohsin Charania his third title. Gimbel played a great game, beating Charania to take home $275,112. Charania settled for runner-up place with $192,132.

William Luciano Emerges Victorious in Chicago Poker Classic Main Event

William Luciano won the 2016 Chicago Poker Classic (CPC) $2,000 Main Event for $254,892! Riding in on a qualifier, Luciano made his highest live score and credited the win to inspiration from Martin Jacobson!
