In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

Here are this week`s top stories

The 2017 World Series of Poker (WSOP) continued to dominate all other action, with several more surprises that saw rank new comers as well as some notables seize the day, claiming the prestigious bracelet. The pace of events has now reduced, but the gaming-intensity heightened with the start of $10,000 Main Event No-Limit Hold’em Championship.

Busy in Las Vegas, the week wrapped up on a great note for Team India at the series as Nipun Java’s trailblazing run continued as he clinched his second bracelet this summer after taking down Event 71: $1,000 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold’em Championship for $237,668. For this win, Java is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week”.

Meanwhile, Aditya Sushant also made his second final table at the series finishing eighth in Event 66: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em pocketing $44,255.

Nothing like unmitigated action to keep the poker-blood flowing! This past week was the live poker player’s wet dream as the big daddy of all events got underway. All three-entry flights for the Main Event are over and a number of our Indian challengers made a great start, making Day 2 of the mega event. Led by India`s most recognized poker celebrity – Team PokerStars Pro Aditya Agarwal, joining him on Day 2 will be notables including Rahul Byrraju, Shashank Jain, Jagdeep Singh, Satchit Kapur, Samay Parikh, Dhaval Mudgal along with many more who will continue the dream grind.

In side events, WPT500 Aria too played down to its conclusion this past week and Team India continued to impress. Nikita Luther made her career best fifth place finish in the event for $65,000. Nipun Java was at it once again and made a seventh-place finish in the event adding another $35,000 to his score sheet this summer.

After a hectic time on the western coast of America, the live-action focus will now shift to the eastern hemisphere i.e. Manila, with the start of APT Philippines 2017 that is to be hosted at the luxurious Winford Hotel & Casino.

This week will also mark the start of Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT), which is slated to run from July 19-24, and guarantees a whopping ₹2 crores in prizes.

India`s largest online poker site Adda52.com is aggressively moving mainstream and recently announced Minissha Lamba as its first celebrity ambassador.

In Goa, positive news for offshore casinos came in after the government extended the deadline for vessels to move out of river Mandovi to September 30.

Rounding our weekly recap are tournament reports from APT Southeast Asia 2017 that saw an Indian taking down a side event.
