The thrills of playing poker notwithstanding, this past week’s events were full of surprises and some blasting online scores from our Indian players.

Taking the spotlight was one of the most consistent performers on the tables recently –Akash ‘proFISHnal’ Malik banked an impressive $24,288.40 after finishing 3rd in PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Warm-Up, $275K GTD’ and gets the distinction of being crowned the ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’.

India’s sole 2-time WSOP bracelet winner Nipun Java was in thick of action this week too as he ran deep in the ongoing SHRPO 2017 Main Event finishing 34th for over $19K payday.

Live action will soon take center stage in the gambling hub of the east – Macau with the commencement of Macau Poker Cup 27 at PokerStars Live Macau in ten days. A strong Indian contingent including Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal, Team PokerMet pro Shuchi Chamaria Agarwal & Dhaval Mudgal, Team Adda52 pro Kunal Patni along with Raghav Bansal, Sumit Sapra, Manoj Pentakota, Alok Birewar, Bobbe Suri, Nishant Sharma, Sahil Chutani, Zarvan Tumboli, Shawn Chatterton and Abhishek Paul are confirmed to be in attendance at the series.

Announcement of new Spin & Go Max on PokerStars, third edition of DOPT on Adda52, one of a kind Match IPL for poker in India, banning of online poker in Australia, PCA’s return announcement along with Poker After Dark and Tom Dwan making a comeback and POTUS Donald Trump, all made news this week.

‘philrounder’ won $5,524.08 for 5th place in the PokerStars ‘Big $215, $75K GTD’.

‘dynamicnag’ won $3,564.44 for 2nd place in the PokerStars ‘$109 Monday 6-Max [Early Edition], $20K GTD’

Vikram ‘thedead parrots’ Singh won $1,926.99 in for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘Big $27, $8K GTD’. Singh also made notable scores in PokerStars ‘Big $33” tournament finishing 1st and 4th in two events.

Rubin ‘poopalert123’ Labroo won $1,873.88 for 4th place in the PokerStars ‘Bounty Builder $109 [Saturday Special], $85K GTD’

Anil ‘BigBlufferAY’ Yadav won $1,675.28 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘Hot $82, $8K GTD’

Akshat ‘akshat03’ won $1,670.73 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$16.50 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $6K GTD’ and also made $1,174.16 for 3rd place in the PokerStars ‘$82 NLHE [6-Max, Hyper-Turbo], $8K GTD’. PokerStars Launches Industry First Spin & Go Max

The online giant PokerStars launched a new version of its popular Spin & Go format named i.e. Spin & Go Max with chance to win up to 10,000x the buy-in. The new format features five new elements namely Player Spinner, Triple Prize Spinner, Hand Countdown, Automatic All-In finale and Risk/Reward Option.

Australian Senate Passes Law to Ban Online Poker

In a shocking development, the Australian Senate on August 9 passed a legislation that goes into effect in 30 days prohibiting online poker sites from doing business in the country unless licensed. The bill named Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill also bans betting on sports or matches in progress.

New Jersey Senator Plans Bill to Boost Online Poker

New Jersey Senator Ray Lesniak is drafting a new bill to allow certain online gamblers located outside of NJ to place bets on sites. The planned bill would remove the rule that online gaming servers set up to run online games for those physically within New Jersey must be located within Atlantic City.

PokerStars Caribbean AdventureSet to Return in January 2018

One of the most historic events in poker world i.e. PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) is making its comeback in January 2018. The return of the popular series is due to the feedback the company received and is expected to run from January 6-14 at Atlantis Resort, Bahamas.

PokerStars’ Poker Revenue Falls in Second Quarter

Poker revenue on world’s biggest poker site PokerStars, saw a decline of 5.9% year-over-year as they released their financial results from the second quarter ending June 30. Stars group, formerly known as Amaya Gaming completed its name change on August 1 and moved its headquarters to Toronto.

Donald Trump’s DTTM Operations LLC Company Applies for Casino Trademark in Macau

According to reports, Donald Trump’s firm that manages his brand DTTM Operations LLC has applied for four new trademarks in the world’s top gambling hub – Macau, including one for casino. The firm has successfully registered 22 other trademarks over the past 11 years in Macau.

2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open

The ongoing 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open hosted in Florida, FL has been a resounding success. Popular poker commentator, Nick Schulman came out on top of the 19-player field of the $50,000 Super High Roller event and banked $440,000 in prize money.

Meanwhile, the $5,250 buy-in Main Event attracted a massive field of 887 runners. The field is now trimmed down to 30 players and India’s only 2-time WSOP bracelet winner Nipun Java managed to run deep in the event finishing 34th for $19,531. Team PokerStars pro Aditya Agarwal fell 20 places shy of the money.

Tyler Tan & Iori Yogo Win Side Events at APT Korea 2017

The inaugural APT Korea Incheon 2017 is currently being hosted at the Paradise City Incheon in South Korea. The series commenced on August 12th and will run till August 20th and has already crowned two champions. Singapore’s Tyler Tan won the Ante Up for Charity banking ₩2,640,000 and reigning APT Player of the Year champion Iori Yogo won the Welcome Event for ₩7,604,000 ($6,600 approx.).

Sean Yu Wins Global Casino Championship Claiming the Final Domestic WSOP Bracelet of 2017

Two-time World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner Sean Yu outlasted the 124-entry field at this year’s Global Casino Championship (GCC) hosted at Harrah’s Cherokee, North Carolina. Yu claimed the last domestic WSOP bracelet of the year along with $296,341 in prize money.

Jack Sinclair Wins 2017 partypokerLIVE German Poker Championship Super High Roller

The 2017 partypokerLIVE German Poker Championship’s €25,000 Super High Roller attracted a total of 28 runners and besting them all was Jack Sinclair who defeated Tony G in the heads-up battle after the two agreed on a deal. Tony walked away with €300,000, while the champion Sinclair won €250,000.
