This past week was teeming with mind-boggling action both live and online. One of the most prominent live stops of the year, the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona is now well underway with the largest-ever contingent of Indians in attendance. At least 10 cashes have been posted by Team India at the series already, with Jai ‘Joey’ Saha registering the most significant score with a seventh-place finish in the €1,100 EPT National for ₹76.44 Lakhs. For this, Saha is our “PokerGuru Star of the Week.”

Day 2 of the €5,300 Main Event will play out later tonight, and a group of eight Indians will be seen in action. Veteran pro Raman Gujral (113,400 – 71 BBs) will be leading the charge alongside fellow countrymen Rahul Melwani (99,800 – 62 BBs), Sumit Asrani (80,400 – 50 BBs), Sahil Chuttani (75,000 – 47 BBs), Kunal Punjwani (55,000 – 34 BBs), Kavin Shah (32,600 – 20 BBs), Rajat Sharma (30,500 -19 BBs) and Anil Gulati (11,700 – 7 BBs).

While Team India has been doing exceedingly well at international stops, the live-action on the domestic felts is about to heat up. The India Poker Championship (IPC) is all set to make a comeback, after a three-year hiatus, from September 11 to 15 on board the floating Casino Big Daddy in Goa. PokerBaazi’s flagship Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) live poker series will also be returning for its second edition from October 9 to 14 at the PokerBaazi LIVE poker room onboard Casino Pride 2. Rounding out the nail-biting action will be the third edition of the World Poker Tour (WPT) India. WPT released the schedule for the upcoming stop earlier today, and the third edition is slated to run from October 15 to 21 onboard Casino Deltin Royale.

These are not the only options for the Indian poker community. There is also the APT Philippines that will run from September 11-22. Though the tour is clashing with the IPC, a few Indian players may still turn up at the Resorts World Manila to attend the series.

However, the next major stop that should see a large group of Indians in attendance is WPT Vietnam, which is scheduled to run from September 3 to 11. Vietnam has for quite some time now been a favored hunting ground for the Indian contingent and the second edition of the WPT Vietnam will all but guaranteed to witness a massive Indian group in attendance including poker icon and PokerStars India Team pro Aditya Agarwal, along with PokerGuru Ambassadors Ashish Ahuja, Ashish Munot, Laksh Pal Singh and Jayjit Ray.

With PokerStars announcing the dates for the second edition of the historic PokerStars Players No Limit Hold ’em Championship (PSPC) 2020, which is expected to run from August 20 to 24, during next year’s EPT Barcelona festival, the race to win the coveted Platinum Passes has already begun. The five lucky winners who have become the first Platinum Pass winners are Clement Eloy, Adrian Vinuela, Danielle Summer, Daryl Inglis, and Christoph Walkenhorst, and they all won the passes in the “Chase Your Dream – Play Against Your Heroes” promotion.

Though the live felts were full to the brim with action, it was the virtual felts that stole the show. PokerBaazi’s most successful online poker tournament-ever, ‘The Game Changer ₹2 Crores GTD’, played out its second edition from August 21 to August 25. Decimating its predecessor’s record, The Game Changer 2.0 registered an astonishing 4,796 entries, generating a prize pool of approximately ₹2.63 Crores. Online phenom Shagun ‘sogani22’ Jain locked in his personal-best online score of ₹40.78 Lakhs by shipping the event. Jain wasn’t the only one to win a million rupees as the top four finalists all collected seven-figure scores, namely Vivek ‘lazyguru’ Singh (runner-up for ₹25.03 Lakhs), ‘rabbithunter’ (3rd for ₹15.87 Lakhs) and PokerGuru Ambassador Vishal ‘Vishallb22’ Bajaj (4th for ₹10.04 Lakhs).

The other big online winners this past week were Rachit ‘d9L’ Parihar (Spartan Poker’s Sunday SuperStack ₹30 Lakhs GTD for ₹5.84 Lakhs), Kaleem ‘fishwithnuts’ Pasha (Adda52’s Mega Suits for ₹5.09 Lakhs), PokerGuru Ambassador Gokul ‘Super Kings’ Raj (Spartan Poker’s DESTINY 10.0 FINALE for ₹5 Lakhs), Bhavye ‘noobpro’ Mittal (9stacks’ The Joker ₹20 Lakhs GTD for ₹4.80 Lakhs) and Sasi ‘sasikiranx’ Kiran (PokerStars India’s Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD for ₹3.18 Lakhs).

In other news, online-poker statistics site PokerTracker confirmed that the site and its subdomain pt4.pokertracker.com had been infected by a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack by Magecart payment card skimmers.

Online poker giant PokerStars announced it had drastically reduced the multi-tabling cap for cash games from 24 to 4 to make the playing environment safer for recreational players.

Caesars’ Entertainment, the owner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP), also confirmed that the company had transferred 10-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey’s winnings of $124,410 from the 2019 WSOP $50K Poker Players Championship (PPC) to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Coming back to home soil, fantasy sports portal and India’s only gaming unicorn, Dream11 has acquired partner rights of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with LafargeHolcim (ACC Cement and Ambuja Cement) and Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

Online gaming company Nazara Technologies Ltd. purchased 67% stake in Absolute Sports Pvt. Ltd., the parent company of Sportskeeda.
