In the PokerGuru feature ‘This Week in Poker’ we bring to you the weekly round up of the biggest online scores by Indian MTT players along with the top stories from both the live and online poker circuit.

The momentum continues, without letting the pace go both online and live this past week. The week was also full of new announcements of exciting online fiestas set to begin soon.

Making headlines this week was Prabhat ‘SuicideSpree’ Mukherjea who topped the online cashes chart thanks to his cumulative score of over $9.3K and claims our ‘PokerGuru Star of the Week’ title.

Team India will now look forward to loads of action in the gambling hub of the east Macau with the upcoming Macau Poker Cup that is set to witness one of the strongest participation from the country till date.

Online buffs have a lot to cheer in the upcoming days as some of the biggest extravaganzas in the poker world are either already underway or will commence soon. India’s largest poker site Adda52’s flagship tournament series i.e. Deltin Online Poker Tournament (DOPT) is currently underway with the highlight ₹15,000 Main Event (₹40 Lakhs GTD) and ₹55K Super High Roller (₹30 Lakhs GTD) to unfold later this week.

India’s most trusted site PokerBaazi has time and again proved to be the game changers and have two special treats for poker buffs in the coming days. PokerBaazi’s flagship series i.e. PokerBaazi Premier League will return next week featuring 31 events with a massive ₹2.4 crore in guaranteed prizes. Vaibhav ‘kill_619’ Sharma won around $7,000 for 15th place in the PokerStars ‘$215 Sunday Million’ and also won $470 for 11th place in PokerStars ‘$109 Wrap-Up’

‘philrounder’ won $4,713.61 for 2nd place in the PokerStarsBig $22, $35K GTD’ and won $1,025.90 for 1st place in the PokerStars ‘$44 NLHE [6-Max, Turbo], $3K GTD’

PokerStars WCOOP 2017

The immensely popular and one of the richest online series i.e. PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is just around a fortnight away and the company released the full schedule for the series that will run from September 3 – 26 and feature 81 exciting tournaments including the $5,200 Main Event with a whopping $10 million guarantee.

Zoom Usain Bolt Edition Announced by PokerStars

PokerStars as promised added speed to poker after its association with Usain Bolt. On August 14, the online giant announced the opening of its first celebrity-branded tables in company’s history, the Zoom Usain Bolt Edition. The special tables started from August 14 and will run till September 24 with a chance to win up to $15,000.

888poker’s New Poker Variant Flopomania Launched on August 20

888poker new game named Flopomania was launched on August 20. The new NLHE poker game removes all preflop betting and skips straight to the flop. Incidentally, earlier this month the variant got available for real-money play in the 888poker lobby for a few hours due to a technical error.

World Poker Tour (WPT) recently announced the addition of 14-time world champion Phil Hellmuth aka “Poker Brat” to its Talent Team. Hellmuth takes the role of the new WPT Raw Deal analyst and will offer commentary and analyze selected hands during WPT broadcasts, starting with the televised Season XVI WPT Choctaw.

2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open

The 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO) series hosted in Florida also concluded the past week with the last of its big winners being crowned. The $5,250 Main Event attracted a total of 887 entries and besting them all was Australian pro Martin Kozlov who pocketed $754,083 for his finish.

PokerStars Championship Barcelona

The inaugural PokerStars Championship Barcelona hosted at Casino Barcelona is off to a splendid start with record-breaking turnouts. The €1,100 PokerStars National Championship drew a total of 4,556 entries (3,626 unique + 931 re-entries) making it the largest live tournament attendance in PokerStars history. A first-time live event participant i.e. Pedro Cairat managed to outlast the massive field and pocketed a cool €432,178 in prize money.

The most expensive buy-in tournament on the schedule i.e.€50,000 Super High Roller attracted a total of 86 entries (67 unique + 19 re-entries) and besting them all was PokerStarsTeam pro from Russia Igor Kurganov who pocketed a cool €1,078,106 for his finish.

APT Korea 2017

The inaugural Asian Poker Tour (APT) Korea 2017 concluded this week and attracted a total of 1,212 entries with players from 22 different countries in attendance.

The headline event of the series i.e. ₩1,100,000 Main Event attracted a total 185 entries and topping them all was US based Albert Paik who walked away with ₩44,860,000 ($39,300) in prize money.

Harry Arutyunyan Wins WSOP Circuit Cherokee Main Event

The $1,675 WSOP Circuit Cherokee Main Event attracted a strong field of 1,022 runners and topping them all was Harry Arutyunyan. The L.A. business ownerbanked $283,597 along with his first WSOP Circuit ring and a seat into next year’s Global Casino Championship.
