What a phenomenal Sunday it was! The historic ‘The Game Changer ₹2 Crores GTD’ returned to the PokerBaazi felts for a second running on August 21 and came to a close in the early hours of August 26. After five days of electrifying action, The Game Changer 2.0 created a new turnout record by logging in 4,796 entries, generating a prize pool worth about ₹2.63 Crores! Traversing across this gigantic field to make it to the top was Shagun ‘sogani22’ Jain who netted an impressive ₹40.78 Lakhs and is now a proud member of the “Millionaire’s Club.”
Jain is a well-known name on the virtual felts with a plethora of deeps runs on his poker resume and this latest win is possibly his personal-best online score so far. However, Jain wasn’t the only one to win a million rupees last night as Vivek ‘lazyguru’ Singh (runner-up for ₹25.03 Lakhs), ‘rabbithunter’ (3rd for ₹15.87 Lakhs) and PokerGuru Ambassador Vishal ‘Vishallb22’ Bajaj (4th for ₹10.04 Lakhs), all collected seven figures in the record-breaking event.
Besides The Game Changer 2.0, PokerBaazi had a packed schedule last night and the other high-value events crowned winners in Umang ‘Umang94’ Kakarania (BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.66 Lakhs), PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘rocky3705’ Ahuja (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.46 Lakhs) and ‘ThikanaCK’ (BSS PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹65,446).
Despite The Game Changer 2.0 attracting the attention of the majority poker community, there was a lot of action going in the other premier online poker sites as well. From this week onwards, our Sunday Online Railbird Report (SORR), will present a more exhaustive coverage of the exciting online action from all the major domestic poker networks.
Spartan Poker’s flagship Sunday tournament, Sunday SuperStack ₹30 Lakhs GTD, experienced an overlay of approximately ₹3.86 Lakhs, as the event fell short of the break-even mark with 523 entries (272 unique, 88 re-entries and 163 re-buys) yesterday. Promising young talent Rachit ‘d9L’ Parihar took down the event along with ₹5.84 Lakhs in prize money.
PokerGuru Ambassador Gokul ‘Super Kings’ Raj reigned supreme in Spartan Poker’s DESTINY 10.0 FINALE, pocketing ₹5 Lakhs for his victory.
The Joker ₹20 Lakhs GTD on 9stacks attracted 354 entries. Tournament regular Bhavye ‘noobpro’ Mittal defeated ‘ScoobyDoobie’ heads-up to claim the top prize of ₹4.80 Lakhs.
India’s biggest online poker site – Adda52 – has been under fire by the poker community with players advocating a boycott of all tournaments on the site for the past three weeks. The move seems to be working since the flagship tournaments on the platform have consistently registered decreasing numbers every passing week. Looking at how the tournaments fared over the past two weeks, the Mega Suits saw its attendance drop to 502 on August 11, while 450 entries were registered last Sunday. The turnout was even lesser this Sunday with 441 entries coming in. Winning the top honor last night was Kaleem ‘fishwithnuts’ Pasha who won the tournament for ₹5.09 Lakhs.
The other Sunday major on Adda52, the ₹15 Lakhs GTD Big Slick was an event consistently logging in over 700 entries every week. In fact, the event had clocked in 749 entries on July 28, but the numbers dipped to 669 on August 11 and came further down to 632 entries last week. The event did slightly better last night with 642 entries, and Anshul ‘POKERBRAT123’ Rajput outlasted them all to become the latest Big Slick champion and collected ₹2.70 Lakhs in prize money.
Leading online poker site, PokerStars India is another platform struggling to move up the ranks in terms of tournament guarantees. The litmus test for the platform has been its biggest weekly tournament, the Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD. The tournament yet again missed the 300-entry mark last night, managing to pull in 284 entries (151 unique and 133 re-entries). Sasi ‘sasikiranx’ Kiran defeated PokerGuru Ambassador Parikshit ‘Zapdos123’ Dhall heads-up to win ₹3.18 Lakhs. Dhall walked away with ₹1.39 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.
Other Sunday winners on PokerStars India include ‘madcatindia’ (Micro Millions – 05: Classic Sunday ₹4 Lakhs GTD for ₹92,513), ‘22re_demption22’ (Micro Millions – 01: Warm Up ₹3 Lakhs GTD for ₹53,777) and Pranav ‘pkpok13’ Khandalkar (Micro Millions – 2: 6+ Hold ‘em ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹46,227), Shivam ‘cyflopse’ Jain (Micro Millions – 04: Storm Special Edition ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹28,300).
PokerGuru Ambassadors have been an unstoppable force on the virtual felts. Following up a blockbuster performance last Sunday the talented crew of PokerGuru Ambassadors pulled off equally impressive performances this Sunday as well. Besides Vishal Bajaj (4th for ₹10.04 Lakhs) and Ratul Steves (6th for ₹5.56 Lakhs), who final tabled The Game Changer 2.0 and Ashish Ahuja, who shipped The Monster 6-Max, the other Team Ambassadors who also posted deep runs in various events were Shuchi Chamaria, Nadeem Basha, Gokul Raj, Ashutosh Balodhi, Kartik Ved, Arjanveer Singh Chadha, Jayjit Ray, Devvrat Arya, Ashish Munot, Faiz Alam, Rony Chowdhury, Parikshit Dhall, Vivek Singh and Laksh Pal Singh.
On fast-growing site Khelo365, ‘rockysingh’ took down the flagship Sunday tournament Twister ₹2 Lakhs GTD Deepstack NLHE for ₹80,000. Other Khelo365 events crowned champions in ‘Jainew’ (Mega Splash ₹1 Lakhs GTD for ₹ 46,440), ‘quanah’ (Twister ₹2 Lakhs GTD Deepstack NLHE for ₹40800) and ‘zravasya’ (Deep Stack ₹40K GTD for ₹16,000).
