Monday (July 15) marked a milestone in the history of Indian poker as Young Gun Abhinav Iyer bettered Paawan Bansal’s runner-up finish in The Closer from last year clinching India’s first-ever solo WSOP gold bracelet. Iyer collected $565,346 (~₹3.87 Crores) for his win, which happens to be the most amount of money an Indian player has won at a poker tournament in recent history!

Adding to this remarkable performance was the spectacular final table finishes posted by Kunal Punjwani and Kalyan Chakravarthy in the $1.5K NLHE Double Stack. While Chakravarthy’s eighth-place elimination for $56,850 (~₹39 Lakhs) may have been an ill-timed aggressive move, Punjwani’s dismissal was a real shocker. He suffered a brutal beat which saw his promising run come to an untimely end in seventh place for $74,401 (~₹51 Lakhs).

It was business as usual on the online felts back home that was brimming with action last Sunday. The biggest Sunday tournament at PokerBaazi, the BSS SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD, registered a field of 530 entries (323 unique and 207 re-entries). Chandan ‘darkfish’ Arora, who had previously won the BSS SuperStack back in August 2018 for ₹7.50 Lakhs, repeated the feat once again as he obliterated the competition, netting a payday worth ₹5.14 Lakhs. Arora, who is an online regular, has been on a roll this year. In January, he won the Elite on Spartan Poker for ₹4.5 Lakhs and quickly followed that up by taking down the Adda52 Millions 6-Max ₹20 Lakhs for ₹4.55 Lakhs.

PokerGuru Ambassadors have been dominating the live felts in Las Vegas and Vietnam. While Ashish Ahuja and Kartik Ved have been spearheading Team PokerGuru’s campaign at the WSOP, fellow teammates Ashish Munot and Laksh Pal Singh have been doing the same at APT Vietnam. In tandem with his fellow Team Ambassadors, Ratul ‘luna’ Steves came out all guns blazing in the BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD at PokerBaazi. He defeated Pranav ‘pranav.bang1’ Bang heads-up to claim the top prize of ₹1.20 Lakhs. Some readers will remember that Steves had won PokerBaazi’s ₹1 Crores GTD ValueBomb for ₹16.20 Lakhs last month.

Across other PokerBaazi events, Vinay ‘vinay09’ Rajpal (BSS PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD (Half RE) for ₹59,997) and Sagar ‘sag245’ Harwani (Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD (RE) for ₹18,100) were the top winners.

The flagship event on PokerStars India, Sunday Special – Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD, narrowly missed meeting its guarantee after pulling in 282 entries (156 unique and 128 re-entries), falling slightly shy of the 300-entry break-even mark. ‘masteroffelts’ topped the field and collected ₹2.91 Lakhs in first-place prize money.

The other events on PokerStars India’s Sunday roster found winners in ‘roha12344’ (Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹40,580), Ram TheLagLawyer Kakkar (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹32,524), yashos13 (Sunday Supersonic ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹24,270) and headsupguy2323 (Sunday Storm ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹15,257).

There is no debate that PokerGuru Ambassador Ratul Steves was one of the top performers on the virtual felts last Sunday, but he was not the only player from the PokerGuru team raking in the big bucks. Mithun ‘thepokerraja’ Mahesh (9th for ₹51,675) and Rony ‘bisadip176’ Chowdhary (17th for ₹26,500) earned payouts in the BSS SuperStack, while Tatagatha ‘Tintin84’ Sengupta (10th for ₹8,800) and Rony Chowdhary (14th for ₹7,250) cashed in the BSS PLO.

PokerGuru Ambassadors Devrat ‘bhasm@sur1’ Arya (3rd for ₹84,330), Ratul MuscariAs Steves (7th for ₹38,754), Laksh Pal B00MTilt23 Singh (20th for ₹9,854), Ashish chipcharity999 Munot (31st for ₹6,421), Rony GoGetters1 Chowdhury (32nd for ₹10,796) and Arjanveer Singh ballistik310’ Chadha (33rd for ₹15,171) finished ITM in the Sunday Special.

Parikshit ‘Zapdos123’ Dhall (5th for ₹10,501), Mithun ThePokeRajaIN Mahesh (7th for ₹5,967) and Arjanveer Singh ballistik310 Chadha (13th for ₹2,856), also cashed in the Sunday Warm-Up, while Dhall (8th for ₹7,061) and Mahesh (11th for ₹5,517), posted scores in the Sunday Stars as well.

Topping the Sunday scores on fast-growing online poker site Khelo365 was ‘nakbsw’ who took down the Twister ₹2 Lakhs GTD Deepstack NLHE for ₹80,000. In other tournaments on the portal, ‘Sachin1055’ (Mega Splash ₹1 Lakh GTD NLHE for ₹43,000), ‘zravasya’ (Big Bang ₹1 Lakh GTD NLHE for ₹40,000) and ‘firehawk729’ (Deep Stack ₹40K GTD NLHE for ₹18,480) came out on top.
