This past week has witnessed choc-a-block live action with three mega poker series, the DPT July Edition, APPT Manila and Triton Super High Roller Series London running at the same. While Team India performed phenomenally well in APPT Manila, it was the DPT series in Goa that was a crucial factor behind the slight decline in turnouts last Sunday. The DPT July edition, like its previous edition, received overwhelming participation from the poker community which inadvertently took the spotlight away from the online action. And as always with numerous circuit regulars in Goa struggling with poor internet connectivity, there was a visible dip in the attendance, especially in a few high buy-in events.

Nevertheless, taking advantage of the relatively softer fields, several players were able to hit it big on the virtual felts!

The standout performer from last Sunday was undoubtedly Ameya ‘encashed’ Gokhale who displaying his multi-tabling skills posted an impressive four final table finishes on PokerStars India. An online regular, Gokhale has a litany of deep runs on the virtual felts. His most recent successful runs came in PokerStars India’s INSCOOP-29 Afternoon on Stars (1st for ₹31,541) in May, the High Roller (runner-up for ₹1.63 Lakhs) in June, as well as Spartan Poker’s Destiny 10.0 (4th for ₹1.25 Lakhs) and ₹5.5K IOPC (4th for 1.19 Lakhs) in July.

Surprisingly, even with four final table finishes, Gokhale failed to win even one title last Sunday. He did come excruciatingly close in two events, i.e., the Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD and the Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD, finishing runner-up in both after striking heads-up deals with the eventual winners. In the Sunday Special, Gokhale lost the title to ‘ferrari089,’ and banked ₹1.98 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. The Sunday Stars crowned a champion in Prashanth ‘nemesis9961’ Sekar, the famous winner of India’s biggest online tournament till date – PokerBaazi’s ‘The Game Changer ₹2 Crores GTD’. Gokhale pocketed ₹42,151 for placing second. Gokhale also finished sixth in the Bigstack Turbo ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹8,418 and placed fifth for ₹4,596 in the Sunday Storm ₹1 Lakh GTD. In all, Gokhale collected ₹2.53 Lakhs from his online exploits last Sunday.

While Gokhale was the breakout performer, the biggest scorer on PokerStars India was ‘ferrari089’ who topped a field of 273 entries (148 unique and 125 re-entries) in the Sunday Special to win ₹2.80 Lakhs in first-place prize money. Besides ‘ferrari089’ and Sekar (Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹42,315), the other winners of the PokerStars India were ‘umapathi29’ (Bigstack Turbo ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹34,334), Utsav ‘rannyOO6’ Taneja (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹27,353) and ‘GUNMAN7275’ (Sunday Storm ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹16,390).

Headlining the list of Sunday winners on India’s most trusted poker site, PokerBaazi on August 4 was ‘along85’ who trounced the 500 entries (315 unique and 185 re-entries) in the Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD to win ₹4.85 Lakhs in prize money.

The other Sunday events on PokerBaazi were won by ‘fullfront’ (The Monster 6- Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.30 Lakhs), Rajneesh ‘msdhoni’ Thakur (BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for₹1.24 Lakhs) and ‘shreekrishna18’ (Sunday ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹17,210).

PokerGuru Ambassadors have been dominating both the live and online felts recently and the winning streak was left unchallenged last Sunday. Just after his dream debut at the 2019 WSOP, Ashish Ahuja was back in action and came close to clinching his second DPT title in the ₹65K High Roller. Ahuja ultimately finished runner-up for ₹16.90 Lakhs. Jayjit Ray, too, was in top form and finished third for ₹77,000 in the ₹15K Bounty.

While Ahuja and Ray were doing the heavy lifting at DPT, several other PokerGuru Ambassadors were crushing it on the online felts. Nadeem Basha and Rony Chowdhury scored in multiple events last Sunday. Basha final tabled the Sunday Special, finishing fifth for ₹51,740, and fell whiskers short of the final tabling the BSS Megastack, placing 13th for ₹7,467. Chowdhury also final tabled the Sunday Special, netting ₹24,201 for a ninth-place finish, while also picking up a final table score in The Monster 6-Max, finishing sixth for ₹26,196.

The other PokerGuru Ambassadors who posted scores in the Sunday Special include Laksh Pal ‘B00MTilt23’ Singh (4th for ₹1.11 Lakhs), Kartik ‘TheInternetKid’ Ved (35th for ₹6,602),Ashutosh ‘Msnugget’ Balodhi (36th for ₹15,764), Ratul ‘MuscariAs’ Steves (41st for ₹10,139) and Ashish ‘Spewushhhiiiii’ Ahuja (42nd for ₹5,764).

Faiz ‘AilaGaya’ Alam (18th for ₹6,334) and Devrat ‘flopCheck’ Arya (19th for ₹5,562) crossed the money line in the BSS Megastack.

Up-and-coming online poker site, Khelo365 hosted four high-value Sunday tournaments which were championed by ‘rockon2002’ (Re Raise ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹80,000), ‘firehawk729’ (Mega Splash ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹46,000), ‘merilaximi999’ (Big Bang ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹43,000) and ‘Cheekuri’ (DeepStack ₹40K GTD for ₹17,280).
