The 50th World Series of Poker (WSOP) may have enthralled the global poker audiences, but it was business as usual at the virtual felts back home last Sunday.

Vidwath Shetty made a dashing return to the virtual felts last Sunday. The Team Manager of GPL India Team Bengaluru Hackers needs no introduction and is one of the more accomplished poker pros in the country today with a string of results both live and online. Bengaluru-based Shetty has been on a self-imposed sabbatical from the game for several months now, giving even popular international events like the 2019 WSOP and APT Vietnam a miss. Talking about this, Shetty said, “I’m not playing any live events this year. Last year was kind of a burnout, so I decided to take a break this year…restarted playing a bit of online this month itself.”

Shetty`s last notable win was in the Adda52 Millions ₹20 Lakhs GTD that he took down on New Years’ eve for ₹4.33 Lakhs. But Shetty was back at work last Sunday taking down the featured tournament on PokerBaazi, Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD. The tournament registered 494 entries (293 unique and 201 re-entries) and Shetty, playing under the moniker ‘Qweasdzxc’ decimated the field, banking ₹4.85 Lakhs in the process.

Coming first in a tourney always feels awesome!” Shetty said, confirming his win!

Another popular PokerBaazi series, the week-long Baazi Grinders Series July Edition kicked off on July 1 with a packed 35-tournament schedule offering a combined guarantee of ₹40 Lakhs. The series came to close last Sunday where headlining the closing day’s action was the Grinders #33 Main Event ₹5 Lakhs GTD. Attracting 495 entries (includes 148 re-entries), the tournament saw ‘Clearsky’ trounce the massive field, claiming the title and top prize of ₹97,150.

The popular BSS PLO enjoyed an unbeaten run last Sunday with PokerBaazi introducing a twist in the format. At half the buy-in, i.e., ₹2,200, players could re-enter the tournament as many times as they wanted. The prize pool guarantee was also reduced by more than half, to ₹2 Lakhs. A field of 143 entries (includes 61 re-entries) ensured that the prize pool drove past the guarantee to reach ₹2.25 Lakhs and ‘barrelbrat’ took home the first-place prize of ₹57,937.

The other winners on PokerBaazi were ‘Miracle’ (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.24 Lakhs), and ‘siddhartha’ (Sunday ₹1 Lakhs GTD for ₹18,470).

PokerGuru Team Ambassadors have also been faring quite well in the WSOP. While Ashish Ahuja has already posted eight scores at his debut WSOP series worth a cumulative $108,505 (~₹74.64 Lakhs), Kartik Ved is another Team Ambassador eyeing back-to-back deep runs in the Main Event having made it to Day 3 in the event as one of the top stacks (285,100 – 119 big blinds) from the group of Indians still in the race. Complementing Ahuja and Ved’s exemplary performances in Las Vegas, their fellow Team Ambassadors back home have been crushing it on the virtual felts. Vivek ‘Mystic Peaks’ Singh for one took down PokerStars India’s Sunday Special – Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD – where he outlasted a field of 243 entries (146 unique and 97 re-entries) to win ₹3.13 Lakhs. Singh had previously run deep in the Uppercut – Progressive KO ₹10 Lakhs GTD on June 4 where he finished runner-up (~₹1.21 Lakhs) to fellow Team Ambassador Mithun ‘ThePokeRajaIN’ Mahesh. But perhaps his most memorable online run since the start of this year came in the High Roller ₹12 Lakhs GTD hosted on May 4 where Singh went head-to-head against his mentor, PokerStars India Team pro Aditya Agarwal. Though Agarwal won the event, a heads-up chop saw Singh walk away with ₹2.33 Lakhs second-place prize money, against Agarwal’s winner’s payday of ₹2.08 Lakhs.

However, Singh was not the only member of the PokerGuru team to rake in the big bucks last Sunday. Rony ‘GoGetters1’ Chowdhury (7th for ₹34,950), Laksh Pal B00MTilt23’ Singh (9th for ₹15,337), Gokul Haxton Jr Raj (21st for ₹12,840), Ratul MuscariAs Steves (33rd for ₹12,636) and Parikshit Zapdos123 Dhall (39th for ₹10,136) were others who cashed the PokerStars India Sunday Special.

Vishal ‘Vishalb22’ Bajaj (12th for ₹5,051) fell whiskers short of the final table in the Sunday Stars ₹2 Lakhs GTD, which crowned a winner in Armaan armaan007111 Kochhar for ₹47,497.

Meanwhile, The Classic, that had its guarantee reduced from ₹2.5 Lakhs to ₹1.5 Lakhs saw PokerGuru Team Ambassador Devrat bhasm@sur1 Arya (4th for ₹16,600) make a valiant run for the title, eventually finishing fourth. DEVG27 took down the event for ₹40,797.

Topping the field across the other PokerStars India events were ‘anandsankar’ (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹27,385), ‘chittibabu_ram’ (Sunday Supersonic ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹21,567), and wizkid31669’ (Sunday Storm ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹14,478).

Khelo365 has been regularly hosting high-value tournaments every Sunday and joining the winner’s list last Sunday were ‘srishti’ (Raise Deep Stack ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹60,000), ‘shades0’ (Big Bang ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹48,160), ‘apalece’ (Mega Splash ₹1 Lakh GTD for ₹43,000), and ‘Rise’ (Deep Stack ₹40K GTD for ₹18,400).
