The 27-event 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO) ran from August 1 to 13 and one of the final tournaments to play out was the $5,250 Championship. Beating a tough field of 809 entries, high stakes specialist Sean Winter (cover image) took home the title along with a paycheque of $698,175. This turned out to be the perfect take-home gift for Winter, who is expecting his first baby in three weeks!

This year Winter has been in good form as far as runs in live tournaments go. In February, he posted five final-table finishes at the 2019 U.S. Poker Open that included the $10,500 Short Deck NLHE title that he won. He had decent outings at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) as well.

Taking down the SHRPO Championship was a redemption of sorts for the Jacksonville native who had finished runner-up to Chris Bolek at the 2014 Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open $3,500 Main Event at the same venue. This time around, though, he left no stones unturned to clinch the title. Coming into the final table with a sizeable chip lead, Winter singularly dominated the play, and defeated Shalom Elharrar heads-up to add another title to his poker resume.

The single re-entry event saw a prize pool of $3,923,650 generated and the top 102 places were paid with a min-cash worth $7,925.

Some of the notables who finished in the money were Ryan Riess (15th for $45,395), Joe Cada (22nd for $26,210), Chris Moneymaker (31st for $18,050), Phil Hui (32nd for $18,050), Ben Zamani (40th for $15,695) and Mukul Pahuja (61st for $12,595).

Final Table Recap

The final table lasted all of nine hours, and there was no elimination for the first three-and-half hours. Eventually, on the 73rd hand of the day, Nick Schwarmann was knocked out by Winter in ninth place.

Soon, Brandon Carl and Joseph Cheong hit the rail as well in eighth and seventh place respectively.

Ben Farrell was booted out in sixth place by Jordan Fisch who held pocket fives against the former`s king-ten.

In the 144th hand on the final table, Giuliano Lentini moved all-in with queen-jack and found a caller in Jerry Robinson who held ace-king. Lentini exited in fifth place.

Five hands later, Jordan Fisch ran king-eight into Winter’s pocket tens and failing to catch up, crashed out in fourth place.

The three-handed play lasted 29 hands before Jerry Robinson moved all-in with ace-king only to be challenged by Winter who was dealt pocket tens again. The board bricked eliminating Robinson in third place.

Heads-up, Winter commanded a massive six-to-one chip lead over Elharar. Winter was the more experienced of the two, but Elharrar had the credentials having worked his way up from a short-stack. Moreover, he had already played a lot of big pots against Winter. However, not giving Elharrar any chance to climb up, Winter methodically dug into the latter’s stack. Finally, Elharrar moved all-in preflop and Winter called with . Elharrar turned over . Already trailing, Elharrar couldn’t connect on the board , and it was Winter who walked away with the SHRPO championship title!
