Online giant PokerStars is at it again. The Stars Group (formerly known as Amaya) that owns the world’s largest online poker site PokerStars came out with two major announcements yesterday (December 15).

PokerStars has announced a new annual exclusive live poker tournament – PokerStars Players No Limit Hold'em Championship (PSPC) with a buy-in of $25,000 that will see PokerStars infuse at least $9 million of added value to the prize pool. PokerStars will award 300 free packages to PSPC named Platinum Passes (worth $30,000) and the winner of the event will receive $1 million.

In another major announcement, PokerStars is reviving its popular regional tours i.e. European Poker Tour (EPT), Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) and the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) in 2018.

PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold'em Championship

PokerStars is gunning to host the richest $25,000 buy-in tournament in the history of poker with the announcement of the Players No Limit Hold'em Championship (PSPC), which is set for the launch a week before the 2019 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Bahamas. PokerStars will add a whopping $9 million to the prize pool i.e. $8 million in packages and additional $1 million to be awarded to the eventual PSPC champion.

Over the course of 2018, PokerStars will give away approx. $8 million worth of free packages named "Platinum Passes" through live and online promotions. Each Platinum Pass is worth roughly $30,000 and includes tournament buy-in ($25,000) along with six nights' accommodation at the Atlantis Resort Nassau, $2,000 for travel expenses and a few other exciting rewards and surprises.

To earn the Platinum Pass, players will have to win key online tournaments, such as the Sunday Million and Sunday Storm, or win a MicroMillions event, a Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) tournament, a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) event, or some other specified tournaments throughout the year. PokerStars also plans to put Platinum Packages in its chest rewards.

Players at PokerStars live events can also receive packages by winning Main Events and through last longer competitions and wild cards. Players who participate in a major tournament series will receive a ticket to compete in a freeroll for their shot at the Platinum Pass.

Chief Executive Officer of The Stars Group, Rafi Ashkenazi shared his expectations from the new live extravaganza. “We expect the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship will set the new global standard for live poker tournaments. We want to demonstrate and reinforce our commitment to the game, and give something back to the players by investing in our live events in a meaningful way. Our objective is to create an event that brings professionals and amateurs together, creating many winning moments and unforgettable stories."

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu was equally stoked and said, "I’m super excited about the Players No Limit Hold’em Championship. This is going to be an incredible experience for those who participate and everyone, no matter their skill level, has a chance to win a Platinum Pass. It will be a must-play event with loads of added value.”

Regional Live Tours Return in 2018

It was last year (2016) when PokerStars decided to rechristen and categorize all its live events under two brands – PokerStars Championship and PokerStars Festival. The former offered main events in the $5,000 buy-in range and the latter in the $1,000 range.

Well, the two brands couldn’t get the poker world that excited due to the grown popularity of its regional tours.

Team PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu recently came to the floor at the PokerStars Championship Prague and made a major announcement i.e. the return of European Poker Tour (EPT), Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) and the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) in 2018.

EPT was one of the most popular and beloved brands in poker. Since 2004, EPT hosted 13 seasons and 115 stops. The tour visited 18 countries and awarded more than €432 million in prize money. The LAPT has already played out nine seasons, and the APPT too is 10 seasons old.

Well, all we can say is that there is a lot to look forward to in the future when it comes to PokerStars live events. So, going by the trending hashtag, #AreYouPlaying?
