PokerStars unveiled its new mobile app Jackpot Poker on the Playphone store on March 16. Available for Android and iOS phones, the game is a fast-paced one based on the site’s highly popular Spin n Gos and their free-to-play app on Facebook.

Jackpot Poker is now available on the Playphone store, which has region specific stores. PokerStars has targeted Taiwan, with a country-specific marketing blitz, as a part of its business plan to attract new markets. Lloyd Melnick, Director of Social Gaming at PokerStars stated in a press release, “Gamers in Taiwan and throughout Asia are going to love the fast-paced poker action that they can get from PokerStars on the Jackpot Poker app.”

Spin n Gos were introduced in 2014 and allow players to make huge paydays with small buy-ins and that too as quickly as a few minutes, even while providing a fun adrenaline-driven gaming experience.

Jackpot Poker will feature a similar three-handed “winner takes all” structure that is available at the Spin n Gos. This three-handed tournament will have a ‘jackpot’ feature, which will determine the final prize pool only after the players are seated, but before the first card is dealt. There will be a minimum guarantee, but the wheel spin could enlarge this by almost 3000 times!

By bringing Spin & Go jackpot tournaments to mobile devices, PokerStars has captured the most exciting innovation in poker in recent years and made it available to everyone with an iOS or Android smartphone,” Melnick added.

Continuing its strategy of appealing to recreational players, PokerStars has incorporated tutorials for study and an in-game poker quiz that allows players to gauge their basic gaming knowledge. The press release also mentioned that the new app would feature far more poker tables than ever seen, so that players could benefit by playing a large pool of 50,000 others at any one time.

So far, the app has met with positive feedback on both the Android and Apple stores, with numerous users stating that Jackpot was “good practice ahead of playing the real money Spin & Go games”. More than 15,000 Android users have given the app a 5 star rating.

PokerStars has been facing criticism from regulars and pros for its decision to introduce casino games and its changes in recent months. In a bid to assure users, Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu had stated in November on Joe Ingram’s poker podcast that the site was planning to come out with several initiatives towards rejuvenating the poker eco-system.

Is Jackpot Poker one of those initiatives and exactly what role it will play in “rejuvenating the poker eco-system” is something that will be revealed in the coming months.
