She’s an avid blogger and her Instagram handle lists out all that she loves to do. From poker to cooking, golfing to yoga, fitness, travel and adventure and so on, there’s nothing that this young Swede from Gothenburg who’s made it big in professional poker very young hasn’t tried her hands on. Yes, at just 27, Sofia Lövgren (cover image) is already a well-traveled poker professional and has set an example for all young ladies across the world!

Lövgren, who has been an integral part of the 888poker pro team since 2014 prefers to grind cash games the most but also finds making a deep run in the long hours of tournaments an exciting adventure in its own. She began playing cash games when she was just 17 and went on to win BIG money. By 2010, she had stepped up as a team pro for PKR, a move that initiated her into live tournaments.

2016 was a good year for Lövgren where she performed extremely well in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and missed the final table of ‘Event #14: $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Millionaire Maker’ by a whisker. Nonetheless, she finished 12/7,245 entries for a score of $75,109. She continues to travel playing big live cash games in international poker destinations spread across the globe. Like Lövgren says it famously, she’s been living her dream and admits that poker has made it possible for her!

Recently, Lövgren visited India on her maiden trip and attended the DPT Colossus Super High Roller Series in Goa playing with the likes of ace cricketer and Universe Boss Chris Gayle.

She recently spoke to PokerGuru and shared her experience in India, how she is set to return in a week for Poker Sports League (PSL), her take on the Indian poker scene and her plans for the upcoming big summer grind.

We did try to get her to speak about the rumored launch of 888poker in India and well, while she was all positive, she hardly gave any concrete information. A foodie and a passionate cook herself, Lövgren had much to talk of the Indian cuisine and how she looks forward to visiting Goa again and exploring cities like Mumbai. We bring you the excerpts –

Hello Sofia and thank you for speaking with PokerGuru. How was your recent visit to India? Was this your first trip to India? How was your experience, especially Goa?

It was my first time to India and I love Goa as a poker destination now! It’s a wonderful place with all the beautiful beaches along the coast. Very nice beach bars with good music to chill at with friends in the evenings. Clubs and restaurants are unlimited and it’s cheaper in Goa compared to some other European destinations.

The casinos are on ships out in the sea which was a new fun experience. I had a great time playing DPT Colossus at Deltin Royal casino. It’s such a big city, so I look forward to coming back soon again and exploring more of the city.

Did you explore Goa and the Indian cuisine? Did you travel anywhere else apart from Goa? Any takeaways?

Indian food is super nice and I love the Indian spices and dishes. I really like fish curry and Prawn Tikka Masala. I’ll come back to Goa next week again to participate in the Poker Sports League here. After this League I might take a few days to check out Mumbai, a very interesting city I really want to visit.

How was your experience playing at the DPT Colossus?

I had a great time playing poker with the Indian poker community. It was a great atmosphere at the tables where many knew each other and everyone had fun laughing and chatting with each other. I bubbled the final table this time, but feel like a winner of a different experience, and I will definitely come back and play poker in Goa soon again. 😉

Do you follow cricket? How was the experience playing with cricket legend Chris Gayle?

Cricket is not so big in Sweden but I have seen it before. Chris is a legend and it was fun talking and playing poker beside him. Oh, he has some good dance moves too!

What do you think about the poker skill level and the poker scene in India?

There is a big mix of players. There are some really good Indian pros and also poker is newer here than in Europe so there are many beginners to the game as well. I think the field here was softer compared to the tours like WPT.

I really recommend players to fly here for this tournament next year. It’s a good tournament in an amazing vacation paradise. The cash games here were really good too.

Please shed some light on the rumors of 888poker entering the Indian market. Can we expect the big news soon given that PokerStars has already entered the market?

888poker is always looking for new markets and India is one of them. At the moment there is nothing to reveal.

What will be your big plans for the upcoming WSOP grind in Las Vegas?

I’m planning to play a lot of live cash games in the upcoming weeks, combined with online tournaments like the $3M GTD Super XL Series on 888poker. Then I’m going to 888poker Live in Barcelona at the end of May.

I’m planning to fly to Vegas for the last 3-4 weeks of WSOP and play all the NLHE events, including the Main Event of course. I also plan to have some good celebration dinners with friends there!

Lövgren signs off!
