For the uninitiated, the Global Poker Index is an international system that provides weekly rankings of the top 300 live poker tournament players (GPI 300), besides rankings for 20 countries across the world. GPI does this by calculating an average for a player over a period of 3 years. GPI scores factor in – (a) Finishing Percentage Factor, (b) Buy-in Factor and the (c) Aging Factor that fit its criteria for every event. Individual scores are compiled to arrive at composite cores.
Poker, as all players know, is a great Leveler, and thus, the GPI can be considered as a barometer of resilience. Rankings may find an unknown topple the leaderboard charts or the continuance of a reigning poker winner of the last week.
In this edition, we bring you the results as on 17 July 2015, highlighting, which Top 10 players bettered their rankings and which players lost their edge.
Anthony Zinno continues his reign at the top of the GPI 300 rankings for another week. Jason Mercier leaps to No. 2 position and seems poised to give Zinno a good threat for the top spot. Scott Seiver show the most traction by moving up this week, with not much else happening.
Among the Indian-origin players in the GPI 300 list, Mukul Pahuja rises, while Shyam Srinivasan makes the biggest fall.
The 2015 WSOP is now over, with only the November Nine left in the battle for the championship title. Naturally, after weeks of upheaval, the GPI WSOP ‘Player of the Year’ chart reflects this slowing down. While Mike Gorodinsky is still No. 1, there are a few changes, with the exception of Stuart Rutter who enters at No. 10.
