The world of poker is full of adrenaline, drama and chaos. But that’s also what creates the juicy gossips. In this edition of the PokerGuru Gossip Column, we have a total of five deliciously salacious stories.

Our first two stories delves into the rampant prop bets that are made in the poker fraternity. While Lily Kiletto locked horns with Danielle Andersen and Jamie Kerstetter on prop bets dealing with physical activities, Joey Ingram on the other hand struck a bet with Jonathan Bales and made a Gus Hansen-themed music video which needs 100K views by September 6.

We then have news of Adam Lulat, who posted his career-best win of £68,930 (~$95,000) after winning the Grosvenor U.K. Poker Tour Manchester in March, but lost it all to the British government.

Meanwhile, iconic poker player Phil Ivey has landed in fresh legal trouble with the Borgata Casino Hotel that has furnished new set of documents to the court in a pending $10.1 Million case pointing that if Ivey could afford buying into high stakes tournaments, he could also pay the bond amount pending from his end in the case.

Wrapping up this edition, we take you to Kansas City in Missouri where a man got arrested for using money he robbed from a bank for playing poker and has been sentenced to more than five years in jail.

So, what are you waiting for? Jump right in!

Lily Kiletto Takes on Danielle Andersen and Jamie Kerstetter

Props bets are as integral a part of the poker world as the chips used to play the game. Just like the chips that can be thrown into the mix to intensify the ongoing action, prop bets too can pop up at anytime. We had recently covered a boxing related prop bet between Antonio Esfandiari and Kevin Hart, so now we are moving on to the ladies.

This time the prop bet in question is of a bench press competition between Lily Kiletto and Danielle “DMoonGirl” Andersen. In a month’s time, the two poker divas will compete against each other with $2,000 on the line and whoever can bench more will be declared the winner.

Now while Kiletto does enjoy going to the gym, she has admitted that she has never bench pressed in her life and can do no more than 25 push-ups. But on the other hand, Andersen may well be the real-life version of ‘Wonder Woman’! Not only does she enjoy CrossFit, but her Instagram posts show her love for heavy lifting as well.

But let’s not discount Kiletto so soon. While she may not be an out-and-out gym rat, she certainly knows how to stay fit. Even going so far as to venture into competitive jump-roping.

Acknowledging her disadvantage, Kiletto said, “If I can beat Danielle, then it would be embarrassing for her and that would bring me great joy.”

But wait! That’s not the end. Twitter sensation Jamie Kerstetter has also tangled herself into this prop bet. Whilst lifting will not be involved, it will deal with endurance and speed. For $1,000, Kiletto and Kerstetter will partake in a one-mile race which will take place in 60-days’ time.

According to Kerstetter, “Kiletto said that she does more cardio so I suggested that I would race her for $1K and she accepted.”

Well, Lily Kiletto certainly has a lot on her plate and we’ll keep an eye on these bets to see how they turn out.

Joey Ingram Makes Gus Hansen Themed Music Video For a Prop Bet

If prop bets were a sport, Joey Ingram would be its reigning champion. From learning Mandarin to singing karaoke, the prop bets Ingram wagers in keep getting weirder.

The latest bet is between Ingram and DFS pro Jonathan Bales. As part of the bet, Ingram has to create a music video of his choice which must generate 100,000 views by September 6 in order for Ingram to win $10,000 from Bales. If the video fails to reach 100K views, then Ingram will owe Bales $5,000.

But that’s not even the most interesting part of the story. Ingram’s music video muse was none other than Gus Hansen!

We are all very well of aware of what a wonderful summer Hansen has had. It was covered extensively by the Danish pro on his Instagram account. But why would Ingram make a video about Gus Hansen, you ask?

Well, Ingram explained his reason behind the decision. “I thought the summer of Gus was epic and wanted to tell his story in a song format, while also tying in my favorite moments in television poker history.”1

So, the video titled ‘It’s Going to Be a Great Summer’, is presently up on Ingram’s YouTube channel.

In a Twitter post Ingram welcomed comments and likes on the video to help him cross the 100,000 view mark.

Will he reach his target and win the bet? Looks like we’ll have to wait to find out.

Adam Lulat Loses Career-Best Win to the Government

They say that crime does pay. That seems to be the case for Adam Lulat who won the Grosvenor U.K. Poker Tour Manchester in March and posted his career-best score of £68,930 (~$95,000) whilst playing against a field of 241 runners.

While this win had given a huge boost to Lulat`s lifetime earnings which was about $17,000 previously, the glory of victory didn’t stay with him for long.

Lulat had been recently released from prison after serving a sentence for a £40 million money laundering scheme in which he served time but only paid back £1 due to lack of assets.

The Preston native was convicted in 2015 and was part of a six-member gang who were all incarcerated for a total of 25 years and 10 months. They were also ordered to pay back £590,000 for the crimes, which occurred between September 2010 and November 2011.

After Lulat served his sentence, he returned to poker and managed to rake in the small-time scores on local stops like GUKPT and the PokerStars U.K. and Ireland Poker Tour.

But Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) must have been keeping tabs on him, for as soon as he hit the big payday, the HMRC tracked him back down and confiscated his winnings as well as a few thousand he had in a personal bank account, seeing as he had never made whole those he’d stolen from in the first place.

An HMRC official stated, “Lulat thought he’d aced the tournament but we had the better hand in the end. We will not allow tax fraudsters like Lulat to enjoy their winnings until they’ve repaid what they’ve stolen from the taxpayer. HMRC will relentlessly pursue criminals for their ill-gotten gains.”

Phil Ivey’s Legal Woes Continue as Borgata Casino Files Fresh Documents

Phil Ivey may be one of the top super bosses in poker, with 10 World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets in his kitty, but that hasn’t kept his legal woes away. This summer, we saw Ivey show up at high profile tournaments in Las Vegas and it seems now that the comeback is going to prove costly for the poker pro.

The Borgata Casino Hotel that has been embroiled in a $10.1 Million legal suit on alleged cheating against Ivey since 2016 is now using Ivey’s presence in poker tournaments as a point in the case to the court.

“First, let us not forget that Ivey has Borgata’s $10 million,” the casino claimed in documents submitted to the federal court on August 4, pointing out that Ivey evidently had no problem coming up with the buy-ins for high-stakes poker tournaments.

The casino has claimed that Ivey’s argument in his pending appeal that seeks to delay the judgment and avoid posting a bond on the ground that the “enormity of the amount would be of devastating impact” to Ivey is erroneous.

“Ivey’s skill and success as a professional poker player are well documented. He is in the top 3 for poker winnings all time, and there is no suggestion that he cannot continue to be successful. Entrance fees for other poker tournaments are far less than $10,000 and one can play online poker with initial deposits of under $100. He is not in danger of being prevented from playing poker.”

The casino also furnished documents listing more than $2 Million worth of Ivey’s tournament poker scores from this summer. While the law will take its own course, it looks like Ivey’s sweat on the felts is pushing him to a legal corner!

Man Sentenced For Robbing Bank to Buy Into Poker Game

Looks like poker superstars are not the only ones to find themselves in legal trouble! A local from Missouri robbed a bank in January to fund his buy-in for a poker game at the Harrah’s North Kansas City casino! Months after his arrest, the accused has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

The accused, Timothy Karpovich of Kansas City was arrested in April after he was caught buying poker chips with $10 bills that matched the serial numbers of the ‘bait bills’ that a robber had taken away from the bank he robbed on January 22.

The poker room’s management recognized Karpovich to be the man they’d seen on TV as the robbery suspect. Video footage of the casino confirmed that the $10 bills that Karpovich was using to buy poker chips matched the serial numbers of the money looted from the bank.

The 39-year old was arrested and admitted to robbing $1,052 in $10 and $2 bills that he had used to play a poker game at the Harrah’s.

While the amount that Karpovich looted may not be huge, the gambling regular certainly made a poor decision by taking to robbing a bank for playing his favorite game of poker.
