Live action was equally rocking in 2016, as Indian players strived to raise the barrier, and make new records for poker posterity. Not only were players seeking new and foreign frontiers to prove their mettle, but nationally too, tournaments were available giving the country’s poker fraternity more action for their buck.

Here we list the Top 5 Live Scores by Indian poker players in 2016. We have only included those domestic tournaments, where organizers have made public their prize pools and individual cashes.

Ankit Ahuja (5th – WSOP Event 58, ~ ₹35.25 Lakhs)

Ankit Ahuja, Product Manager, PokerStars was also busy playing this year, and collected cashes in Dublin, Nottingham and Las Vegas. It was at the latter that he made a splash with two cashes.

The most significant of these was a fifth place finish in WSOP Event #58 – $1000 No-Limit Hold’em (30-minute levels) for a huge $51,878 (~₹35.25 Lakhs). This gives Ankit the top place on this list.

Raghav Bansal (1st – DPT January Main Event, 30.60 Lakhs)

One of the two players to appear on both, the Top 5 online and live cashes list for 2016, Raghav Bansal has had an eventful year, filled with several scores, including seven cashes at the WSOP alone, totaling almost $69K.

But it was Bansal’s start-of-the-year win at the Deltin Poker Tour (DPT) Main Event that netted him ₹30.60 Lakhs, placing him second on this list.

If there were a sixth place, Bansal would figure there as well, since he made another $32,130 (~21.83 Lakhs) for an 11th place finish in the WSOP Event #21, NLH 6-Handed. He also made two final tables at the Macau Poker Cup 25 and the ACOP Macau.

Aditya Sushant (216th – WSOP Main Event, ~28.73 Lakhs)

This Chennai—based pro Aditya Sushant was on his third visit to WSOP, where he has not fared so well the past two times. This year too, it almost seemed to be a dry run for him, until the last few events, where he made two cashes.

His gleeful moment came in the $10,000 Main Event; where among a field of 6,737 he made a 216th place for $42,285 (~₹28.73 Lakhs).

Earlier in the year, Sushant made runner-up at the India Poker Championship February High Roller for 11.50 Lakhs.

Rohit Tiwari (1st – DPT August High Roller, 27.70 Lakhs)

After having won the “Thalaiva” High Roller for 3.74 at the THOS festival in Bengaluru last year, Rohit Tiwari has been on a roll all through 2016 and his highest score came at the August edition of the DPT, 60K High Roller, where he made first place for ₹27.70 Lakhs.

Shravan Chhabria (328th – WSOP Main Event, $32,396)

The second player to make both, the live and online lists is Shravan Chhabria. Like Bansal, Chhabria also began the year with a win at the January DPT series, where he made ₹3.30 Lakhs at a side event.

Las Vegas was not so kind with no cashes coming his way, until the very end, when he made a 328th place among the huge 6,737 entry-field at the Main Event for $32,396.

Other Notable Scores –

As is evident, several scores are extremely near in figures and here are a few more that almost made this list.

Amit Jain (14th – WSOP Event 69, ~₹18.83 Lakhs)

Amit Jain was one of those who joined the WSOP late this year, but more than made up for it with an impressive 14th place finish amidst 4,370 entries in Event #69 – $1000 +111 Little One for One Drop No-Limit Hold’em for $27,714 (~₹18.83 Lakhs).
