Takeovers continue to be a part of the gaming world and the latest is NYX acquiring OpenBet, even as it sells a non-performing asset. In our second story, we have a launch of CelebrityWorld.com, a new celebrity, social and gaming site. The third story is about the World Series of Poker (WSOP) announcing its newly renamed Global Casino Championship at Harrah’s in August.
NYX Gaming Group Limited, the Las Vegas-based online gaming supplier announced its takeover of OB Topco Ltd, owners of OpenBet, the London-based market leader of business-to-business sportsbook and digital gaming for a sum of £270 million. The deal is expected to get the necessary regulatory and stock exchange approvals by May this year.
In a press release on Monday, April 4, the company stated, that NYX would acquire 100% of OB Topco Ltd issued and pending shares through a binding share agreement, from Vitruvian Partners LLP, co-investors and management of the latter.
Matt Davey, CEO of NYX said that the acquisition of OpenBet completes the company’s portfolio of top-notch products and services. It is believed that together, the two companies would provide clients across the world with exclusive gaming and betting solutions for all channels.
The transaction will also involve William Hill PLC and Sky Betting and Gaming “through a preferred equity investment of £100 million in aggregate” to partially fund the transaction.
Besides the equity participation, there will also be a three-year development program between William Hill, NYX and OpenBet, to enhance the latter’s technology.
At the same time, NYX also announced the sale of Ongame, the poker network it had bought from Amaya Inc. in 2014. Thomas Huw, Chief Corporate Development and Marketing Officer NYX refused to divulge the details, stating that the company was first focused on acquiring OpenBet.
According to industry experts, the Ongame network, which has eighteen sites, has been showing a steady loss over the past six months.
World Poker Fund Partners With Celebs To Launch CelebrityWorld.com
Barely seven days after World Poker Fund Holdings (WPFH) got $1.2m investment from 1-800-PublicRelations (1800pr), a PR firm, the company announced the launch of CelebrityWorld.com, a new celebrity involving social casino and gaming site.
The new site, the first of its kind in the world will be a partnership between WPFH and Soulja Bay, popular rap star andJamie Gold, former World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2012 Main Event Champion, as well as De Anthoney Thomas andKyle Massey.
“This is going to be the biggest thing since online gaming started,” 25-year old multi-millionaire rap star Soulja Boy stated.
A motley mix of social networking and online gambling, the site will have an online casino with staples, such as blackjack, video poker, and slot machines, with others games like bingo, fringo, and solitaire. The site will also offer sports book and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS).
Gold, who has made two six-figure scores this year, which includes a runner-up to Esfandiari in the WSOP Circuit Bicycle Casino at Los Angeles, will host the online casino.
For social-networkers, CelebrityWorld.com will have party rooms, Fantasy Suites that will offer super shopping deals and clubbing, with celebrity branded clothing lines.
On Monday, April 4, WSOP Circuit announced the culmination of its 12th season with a newly named WSOP Global Casino Championship (earlier the WSOP National Championship) event, which will be hosted at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort .
The event is a official 2026 bracelet event with a $1 Mn guaranteed prize pool that players can access by winning any WSOP Circuit Main Event or Casino Champion titles at any of its stops this season. This time players from WSOP International Circuit events, such as Morocco, Georgia, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Canada will also join the U.S. event winners.
The freeroll will run from August 9 to 11 with a $1 million guaranteed along the first WSOP Circuit festival of the new season, a 12 gold-ring series of tournaments from Aug. 4 to 16.
Brooks Robinson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s Cherokee stated that “Not only do we get to welcome in players from around the world, but we also get to help kick off the 2016-17 Circuit season. It really is a fantastic opportunity for our employees to help showcase the resort.”
The event will award 100 free seats to players, with the top 50 from the WSOP Circuit’s U.S. leader board also getting an entry. Free entry players will get $500 travel stipend and three nights at the Harrah’s Cherokee hotel, plus one additional night for those making the final table.
Besides free entries, the top 100 players on the WSOP World Rankings will also be eligible to buy-in into the event for $10,000. Plus, players who have won WSOP Circuit rings will also be allowed to buy in.
Players who buy in will see their $10,000 added to the prize pool, without a rake, along with the $1 million put up by the WSOP.
