One of the new entrants in the country, online poker site Pocket52, made headlines on launch as it brought with it the country’s first cryptographically secure RNG platform. Taking another big stride, Pocket52 has recently launched its very own online poker network. Called the Pocket52 Network, this all-new endeavor ambitiously aims to operate as a domestic shared network for online poker platforms in India.

As a start, the Pocket52 Network has already roped in online poker startup Calling Station as the first site on its network. Both these sites will share the player pools while operating as separate companies – unlike the Quadnet India Poker Network that shares liquidity across two poker sites, The Spartan Poker and FTR Poker – both of them owned by the same company Quadrific Media Private Limited.

Talking about the launch, CEO and co-founder Nitesh Salvi said, “We are currently the only Indian poker network to offer a shared liquidity player pool that connects players from all across the subcontinent. Moving towards the domestic market represents a huge opportunity for the Indian poker industry and highlights the numerous possibilities that co-exist.”

Salvi, who is also credited for co-founding the Edu-Tech platform, Plancess, explained further, “The launch of Pocket52 network gives us additional operational, technological, marketing and commercial leverage to develop innovative features and find exciting new network partnerships. With the game reaching out to more people, we can also project poker as a ‘game of skill’ over ‘game of chance’ more effectively.”

The Making of Pocket52

Though founded as early as 2016 by a talented group of IITiansNitesh Salvi, Saurav Suman, Satyam Verma, and Debashish Bhattacharjee, Pocket52 really hit the ground running only last year. The company has positioned itself as a Product and Technology company, and banking upon the new craze blockchain technology received an undisclosed amount of institutional funding from a group of investors led by Speciale Invest in December 2018.

Pocket52’s focus has been primarily on technology and innovation. With a light-weight 7.5 MB Android app, the site claims to have the lightest poker app in the market and is the only platform that supports the picture-in-picture feature.

Talking more about the Pocket52 network, co-founder of Pocket52, Abhigya Sagar said, “The unique Pocket52 domestic network is a great boon for the players as they can access more variety of games and a bigger playing field. Tournament guarantees can get enormous along with more cash game action to keep players engaged. I am confident that the Indian poker industry will be much more powerful & interesting as we head into 2020.

The Right Move?

The Indian poker industry is still evolving, and the spurt of growth has brought with it new operators along with renewed vigor for expansion for existing players.

With such intense competition in a nascent market, a technologically focussed brand like Pocket52 seems to have chosen the correct path of launching a network – a business model that is yet to go mainstream in India.

PokerHigh was, in fact, the first platform to enter the country with a poker network business model. After a few years of operating on in-house software, PokerHigh joined a collaboration with international poker software company Enterra Soft in May to launch and jointly manage the Fair Play Skill Network for offering white labels and skins. There are, however, no reported member sites on the network as on date.

The only other poker network (apart from the Pocket52 poker network) presently operating in the country is the Quadnet India poker network. The network is run by Quadrific Media Private Limited, the parent company behind Spartan Poker and FTR Poker (that it acquired in May 2018).
