It has been a landmark week for live poker in the country with the 2019 India Poker Championship (IPC) obliterating records all around! The series made an epic comeback which saw the star attraction ₹35K Main Event topple the 697-entry record set at the 2018 WPT India Main Event, by logging in a mind-boggling field of 777 entries through two starting flights. The Main Event declared a champion in Raj Talwar earlier today, who banked a personal-best ₹49.25 Lakhs for his win!

While the live-action was undoubtedly thrilling, it was the online felts that took a massive beating, with all major poker sites registering overlays in their premier Sunday tournaments. Not only was the entire domestic poker community attending the IPC, but even players who were interested in multi-tabling both live and online had to dodge the unreliable Goa internet. All these factors led to a significant shortfall in attendance on the virtual felts last night.

PokerBaazi’s flagship Sunday event, Baazi Super Sunday (BSS) SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD, has week-after-week smashed its advertised guarantee, however, last night the event failed to cross the 500-entry mark after a very long time, leading to a minor overlay of ₹41,500. Nitin ‘philhermouth’ Arora championed the event, banking a winner’s payday of ₹5.02 Lakhs. ‘Chennaino1’ (BSS Megastack ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.24 Lakhs), Devang ‘laila’ Yadav (The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.20 Lakhs) and Vatsalya ‘MaxEV’ Rao (BSS PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹53,868), were the other winners on PokerBaazi yesterday.

IPC sponsors, Spartan Poker, too could not avoid the overlay storm that hit the virtual felts last night. The site’s signature Sunday tournament, Sunday SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD, experienced an overlay of ₹1.35 Lakhs through 473 entries (234 entries, 115 re-entries, and 124 rebuys). Making use of the value on offer, ‘pgp282’ clinched the title, along with a top prize of ₹4.87 Lakhs. Kshitij ‘TheG0dfath3r’ Kucheria won the other big guarantee event on Spartan Poker last Sunday, the SVS #5 – Big Daddy ₹5 Lakhs GTD, for ₹97,450.

Adda52 is no stranger to overlays, having endured quite a lot of it in the past few weeks. However, this past Sunday, the overlay on the site was not entirely due to the ongoing protests against its outdated TDS policy. Adda52’s Mega Suits ₹25 Lakhs GTD had a significant shortfall of ₹2.75 Lakhs, while Big Slick ₹15 Lakhs GTD registered an even bigger overlay of ₹3.08 Lakhs. Himanshu ‘pirateking7’ Arora took down the Mega Suits for ₹4.65 Lakhs, and ‘Reg_Slayer’ shipped the Big Slick for ₹2.74 Lakhs.

PokerStars India’s overlay drama in its mainstay Sunday tournament – Sunday Special – Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD – has continued and this Sunday the event witnessed an overlay of nearly ₹3 Lakhs. Alok ‘VotaryoftheLaw’ Ranjan emerged victorious, collecting ₹3.05 Lakhs in prize money. The other MTT’s on PokerStars India’s Sunday roster crowned winners in ‘rdx1111’ (Sunday Special (L) ₹10 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.80 Lakhs), ‘gangnam gangi’ (Sunday PLO ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹34,382) and Adithiyya ‘Bezerkk1’ Sb (Sunday Warm-Up ₹1.5 Lakhs GTD for ₹24,134).

Meanwhile, 9stacks’ The Joker ₹15 Lakhs GTD attracted 236 entries (209 unique, and 27 rebuys) with Harsh ‘harsh114’ Sanghi taking down the title for ₹3.67 Lakhs in prize money.

Many players picked up multiple scores last night with the likes of Aditya Kulkarni, Young Gun Ujjwal Narwal, Faiz Alam, Ashish Munot and Arjanveer Singh Chadha, posting multiple final table scores.

Nitin ‘philhermouth’ Arora, who had shipped PokerBaazi’s FRI-YAY ₹10 Lakhs GTD for ₹2.10 Lakhs on August 30, triumphed over the field, claiming the title and the top prize worth ₹5.02 Lakhs.
