Come summer, it’s the time when most poker players around the world budget and plan their travel to Las Vegas to attend the biggest live poker fest – World Series of Poker (WSOP)! Back in India, the excitement for the WSOP and Vegas has already started building up, and there’s a mad rush across among the domestic poker operators who are coming out with innovative ways to give out WSOP packages.

Fast growing online poker site, MadOverPoker (MOP) seems to be leading the lot on this front with the launch of an innovative and all-inclusive promotion – Viva Las Vegas. As part of the promotion, the site is hosting a well structured and lucrative MTT series namely Vegas Series that is currently underway. The four-day long series is offering a total prize pool guarantee of ₹18.75 Lakhs with additional leaderboard prizes. If action has been swift and intense over the past two days, most tournaments have also seen their final prize pools override the advertised guarantees.

Hogging the limelight for his phenomenal run these past 2 days is Rajesh Shukla. Predominantly an online player, Shukla’s most notable live score came with his 19th place finish at the World Poker Tour (WPT) India ₹35K NLHE Superstack (₹85,400) in November 2018.

At the Vegas Series, Shukla who plays as ‘Sankibuddha’ on MOP topped a stacked field in the featured event of Day 1 – the ₹880 buy-in ₹1.75 Lakh GTD. Along with pocketing ₹41,125 for his feat, he also final tabled the ₹1 Lakh GTD (6th for ₹7,092). The two final-table finishes on Day 1 saw Shukla take an early lead in the Vegas Leaderboard rankings.

A second consecutive day of play and Shukla has done it again! This time he has captured two back-to-back events and final tabled the third event. Shukla first swooped the title in ₹40K GTD (FO) for ₹7,580 followed by a fourth-place finish in Day 2`s featured event – ₹2 Lakhs GTD (₹18,000). Now if that was not enough, Shukla further added to his Leaderboard tally by taking down the ₹1.25K GTD (RE) (₹25,377) yesterday.

There is a Silver Package worth ₹1.5 Lakhs (11 Nights stay + both ways flight tickets to Las Vegas) in store for the winner of the Vegas Series Leaderboard winner, and Shukla is hands down the clear favourite to win it with 1,601 points in his kitty already from his five final table scores.

Interestingly, Shukla may have dominated the felts on Day 1, but there’s another player fast climbing up the Leaderboard in a bid to win the Vegas Package. Sachin HellHole’ Raj missed out on a deep, final table score on Day 1 but more than made up for it by taking down two titles on Day 2. After winning the ₹2 Lakhs GTD (₹40,485), Raj took down the ₹40K GTD (6-Max RE) (₹10,367). These two wins have catapulted Raj into the number two position on the Vegas Leaderboard with 1,038 points!

MOP co-founder Amit Kanodia expressed satisfaction at the way the series is going. “Vegas series is an attempt to give a fair chance to all types of tournament players to go the Worlds’s prestigious Poker event – WSOP & realize their dreams. We specifically designed a tournament series as we wished to send a tournament specialist to WSOP to give him/her an exposure to the international standards of the game and improve their skills by playing with the best in the world!”

More events are coming up and today’s featured event is the ₹880 buy-in ₹1.75 Lakhs GTD kicking off at 8.30 PM. With the ₹1,600 buy-in Main Event coming up at 8.30 PM tomorrow, there is a lot more action yet to unfold at the Vegas Series.
