The India Poker Championship (IPC) has become synonymous with massive fields and action-packed tournaments. The January 2020 edition seems to be no different. The series hit the floor running with the series-opener ₹10K Kick Off event that took flight at 6 PM on Wednesday. The event was looking to beat the record of 437 entries set by its predecessor back in September, and after seven levels of play, the final tally of entries stood at 315. Though the turnouts failed to surpass the last edition’s record, it still managed to obliterate the guarantee by collecting a prize pool worth ₹30.55 Lakhs.

Following the completion of 18 levels of play, only 22 runners were left in the field. Headlining the lot was Aditya Kesharwani (cover image), who bagged the most massive stack of 920,000 among the advancing players. Siddharth Mundada (527,000) and Vinod Megalmani (401,000) rounded out the top three stacks at the end of Day 1.

This was undoubtedly a standout day for Mundada, who is chasing back-to-back titles at the event. He had won this very event last year for ₹8.80 Lakhs.

The other notable stacks that advanced to Day 2 belong to Akash Shekhar (298,000), Rachit Pathak (286,000), Shaswat Agarwal (172,000), Gaurav Sood (137,000), Deepanshi Tomar (135,000) and Aishwarya Khurana (70,000).

Notably, both Tomar and Khurana are still in the running to win the ‘Last Woman Standing’ contest.

The top 37 places were assured payouts. It was Kunal Patni who burst the money bubble after scoring a double knockout, which resulted in Atul Jaiswal donning the unfortunate tournament bubble tag. At the same time, Vinod Hedge became the first player to finish in the money, placing 37th for ₹18,900.

Ritesh Sejpal was the last player to be eliminated on Day 1, finishing 23rd for ₹26,600.

The remaining 22 hopefuls will return at 3 PM on Thursday to contend for the top prize of ₹6.73 Lakhs. All the players making a comeback are assured a minimum payout of ₹26,600.
