A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Goa High Court by Kashinath Shetye, which challenges the operations of the offshore casinos in the River Mandovi. Taking notice of the PIL, the High Court has already issued notices to 17 concerned parties, including the Chief Secretary, Under Secretary Home, Captain of Ports, Director of Fisheries, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Marine Police, Department of Tourism, GCZMA, GSPCB, Collector and Deputy Collector and three casino operators.

The Court has also granted amicus curiae to Shetye, setting the hearing for October 4.

Shetye has been actively objecting to the ruling BJP government and has accused them of favoring the casinos. He had earlier vociferously campaigned to get the fifth casino removed from near the Dr. Salim Ali bird sanctuary.
