Goa debacles continue as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday assured the House that the policy to govern the Casino industry in the state would be announced within a week. The main agenda for the policy seems to the relocation of the five operational offshore casinos out from River Mandovi.

Parrikar was talking on the floor of the House during the ongoing State Legislative Assembly session which got culminated yesterday.

He said, “In next one week, we will declare the policy to shift the casinos out of River Mandovi. We have already drafted the policy fixing the time frame to remove casinos from the River.”

Goa has five operational offshore casinos and more than six onshore casinos located in five-star resorts.

He assured that the casinos would be shifted out of the Mandovi River “within stipulated time frame.”

In the past, the opposition has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of supporting the casino industry. The Chief Minister recalled that it was Congress that allowed most of the existing offshore casinos to operate in the State.
