Less than two weeks ago, Global Poker League (GPL) India CEO Alex Dreyfus revealed the first three players who will be associated with the inaugural league namely Nipun Java (International Ambassador), Muskan Sethi (Manager of Delhi Diehards) and Vidwath Shetty (Manager of Bangalore Hackers).
Now, GPL India has announced the next three players who will manage their city-based teams.
PokerBaazi pro Vikram Kumar aka “Lungi” was the third team manager announced on September 15 and will lead the command for Chennai Sharks.
We spoke to Kumar who said, “I am very excited and thrilled to be chosen as manager of Chennai Sharks on first edition of GPL India. Will do my bit to glorify this great mind sport and prove it as a skill game. I am never a guy who expects anything but I smell huge success and recognition for the game”
Next, PokerBaazi pro and poker coach Abhishek Rathod was announced as the manager of Ahmedabad Alphas on September 22.
And finally, on September 26, high stakes cash game pro Kavin Shah was announced as the manager for Mumbai Jetsetters.
GPL India is gearing up for a grand launch next year and we look forward to the addition of more star power adding to the glitz and glamour with 1 team manager yet to be announced.
That’s not all as Dreyfus also unveiled GPL`s new logo yesterday along with the launch of the official GPL website – www.GPL.com.
PokerGuru spoke to Dreyfus who shared his excitement on these new developments, “Yesterday, we just released our new portal www.gpl.com, with new logo, including India too, China and all our content from previous season.”
Dreyfus further added, “India is one of our top priority and we are actively talking to a lot of partners who reached us to be part of the adventure. I think till now, we got a lot of traction and good feedback. Much more than expected. We selected our 6 managers already, even though we announced 5 for now. They represent a mix of the Indian poker community, some old school players, some young generation, leading woman, cash-game boss, etc. We chose them, not based on poker skill but rather on their legitimacy to lead a team.”
To conclude Dreyfus said, “We’ve been very lucky with the support of the community and I’d like to thank everybody. GPL is going to be a fun adventure and there is a long journey ahead us, but we are building a solid foundation.”
