DPT September 2017: Haresh Kukreja Ships Main Event For ₹18.71 Lakhs

After registering an impressive 114 entries in the 75K High Roller at the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) where Adda52 Team Pro Amit Jain emerged victorious, the action moved over to the weekend special 35K Main Event on Saturday. Once again, a strong 179-player field ensured some exciting poker action with another well-known pro Haresh “Kavish” Kukreja (cover image) taking top honors for a well-deserved ₹18,71,000 payday.

The best thing about Goa tournaments is the coming together of the close poker fraternity and once again several big names made way to the offshore poker room to take a shot at DPT glory. Among the many players in action were Adda52 Team pros Kunal Patni & Nikita Luther, Adda52 Celebrity Pro Minissha Lamba along with India’s first WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant, Kickoff winner Bobbe Suri, Muskan Sethi, Mayank Agarwal, Adda52 Millions High Roller winner Anujkumar Kodam, Rajat Jain, Nitesh Baliyan, Gagandeep Malik, Madan Kumar, Anil Gulati, Maria Kirloskar, Shravan Chhabria, Vivek Rughani, Zarvan Tumboli, Ankush Aryan, Imran Khan, Abhishek Goindi and Raghav Bansal.

Among those who were eliminated on the opening day were Deepinder Malhotra, Vaibhav Khurana, Aseem Jain, Aniket Bhargav, Vaibhav Sharma, Imran Khan, Nadeem Basha, Bhuvan Bansal, Amjad Pasha, Anil Adiani, Sahil Chutani, Manesh Rathod, Rahul Fernandez and Vasim Rozani.

The opening day`s action trimmed down the field to 35 players with Varun Iyer leading the way with 206,000 in chips. Close behind him was Kapil Arora who bagged 204,000 with Chennai’s Govardhan R rounding up the top three stacks with 184,500.

Some other notables who made it through the opening flight were Haresh Kukreja (1,65,500), Raghav Bansal (112,500), Aditya Sushant (108,000), Anujkumar Kodam (92,500), Prashant Jain Bhutoria (83,500), Abhishek Goindi (80,900), Zarvan Tumboli (66,500), Minissha Lamba (60,000) and Anil Gulati (22,000).

 

Final Day Recap

Day 2 of the event got underway at 3 pm on Sunday.

Bollywood actor Minissha Lamba was one of the first eliminations on Sunday with, Loveleen Singh, Amrita Sethi and Zarvan Tumboli all going out early.

Haresh Kukreja picked up momentum early on and that helped him accumulate chips. One of his first victims of the day was Adda52 Millions High Roller winner Anujkumar Kodam. Kodam moved all-in with and Kukreja looked him up with . The board went Kukreja` s way and Kodam hit the door after losing the flip.

The infamous bubble boy tag fell upon Aditya ‘Bitti’ Agarwal who exited in 19th place. Agarwal jammed with and Shubham Tandon called off with . Tandon hit not one but two cards on the board to get the remaining players in the money.

Some other who missed the final table but took home a piece of the prize money were Anmol Mehta (10th place), Shubham Tandon (11th place), Rubin Labroo (12th place), Faiz Alam (13th place), Sandeep (14th place), Abhishek Goindi (17th place) and Nagendra Vadlamani (18th place).

The star studded eight-handed final table commenced after Aditya Kumar fell in ninth place.

Final Table Recap

Short-stacked Mayank Jain was the first one out and fell at the hands of Varun Iyer. Jain moved all-in with and Iyer called with . The community cards opened and Iyer took the pot with two pairs eliminating Jain from the event.

The next to fall was Amit Kumar who took the seventh place followed by Kapil Arora who also went out at the hands of Iyer. Iyer opened and Arora shoved his short stack holding Kx Qx. Iyer called with Ax 2x. With no help on the board, Arora was out at sixth place.

Govardhan R was showed the door in fifth place with Prashant Jain Bhutoria following him thereafter in fourth place. The heads-up match between eventual champion Haresh Kukreja and Varun Iyer began after Romit Advani exited the event in third place.

The intense heads up battle between Mumbai`s Kukreja and Gurgaon’s Iyer ended with the former winning the DPT Main Event title. The last hand of the event saw both players moving all in with Kukreja’s against Iyer’s weaker . The board threw no surprises with crowning Kukreja the champion for a whooping ₹18,71,000 payday.
