Poker has witnessed unsurmountable growth and popularity in India over the last year. Despite legal and political impediments, the domestic poker industry managed to attract some big international brands like PokerStars, Global Poker League (GPL) and World Poker Tour (WPT) last year.
Since 2015, there has been a dearth of live poker tournaments in the country. However, there has been a steady increase in participation of Indian players in international tournaments, which indicates that there is a growing demand for high-value tournaments among Indian players. For various reasons the number of good tournaments has become limited in recent times, with only a few brands catering to the needs to these players, namely, WPT India, Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT) and Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT). However, even these brands host at most two to three editions each year, leaving the growing demand for live poker tournaments in the country largely unaddressed.
Nonetheless, it seems that Indian players will be able to satisfy their live poker urges on Indian soil soon as one of India’s leading tournament brands, DPT kicked of the New Year with the announcement of their first series of 2019. Powered by the premier online poker site Adda52, the first DPT of 2019 will once again be held at the Adda Live Poker Room aboard the luxurious Casino Deltin Royale from February 7. Comprising of five events, the series will conclude on February 11. With February being a fairly light month for international poker, the series is expected to witness healthy participation.
On January 1, DPT had announced their upcoming series on social media and released the dates for not only DPT February edition, but also DPT Xpress (March 14-17, 2019), but without revealing further details.
“2018 has been a break-out year for the Indian poker Industry with several amazing developments in poker. Now it is time to cherish the old memories and make new beginnings because it is a #NewYear – 2019!! With 2019 starting today, some amazing new opportunities are coming our way and we are pleased to share the #DPT and #DPTX dates for 2019. May you have a joyful ride ahead! Wish you all a very #HappyNewYear!”
On January 10, the brand released the dates for the first edition of the 2019 DPT across all social media platforms.
Last year DPT had hosted three editions of its series in February, April and July, all of which were a grand success. The February 2018 Main Event was taken down by Dainik Mehta for ₹23.19 Lakhs, with Alok Birewar, Satguru S and Young Gun Vivek Singh picking up side event titles.
The inaugural DPT Colossus Super High Roller series held in April saw Sriharsha Doddapaneni emerge victorious and take home ₹28.70 Lakhs.
The final edition of 2018, i.e. the July edition, saw several big names win titles including Jasven Saigal, Baadshah Team Pro Eka Vedantham and Abhishek Tibrewal, while Awnish Singh clinched the Main Event title winning ₹35.04 Lakhs in prize money.
The schedule for the 2019 DPT February is very similar to its predecessors, however, there are slights changes that the brand has incorporated, taking the feedback from players into consideration.
1. The start time of the ₹15K Deep Dive event has been delayed by an hour to 6.00 PM post the feedback that the brand received from players at the July’18 Edition.
2. The late registration for the ₹65K Highroller event has been extended till level 12 on Day 2
3. Day 1C flight of the ₹35K Main Event will now be a Turbo flight with 25-minute levels.
4. The NLH Bounty which previously had a 9-Max format has been revamped to a R/E format.
5. The final table of the ₹15K Deep Dive will be live streamed along with the final table of the ₹35K Main Event.
Apart from the conventional live satellites that will be on offer around the clock at Casino Deltin Royale during the series, online partner Adda52 will be hosting regular online satellites to the series. All players participating in the Main Event and High Roller can avail the ‘Stay and Play’ package on the site. In fact, players can get free stay and airport transfers to Deltin properties if they pre-book the ‘Stay and Play’ package.
Players can also pre-register for all DPT events on Adda52. Those who chose to register at the venue can share their details on the pre-registration link available on the site which will facilitate their easy entry into the venue.
Speaking about the upcoming DPT series, Business Head of Poker at Deltin Royale Manish Adnani told PokerGuru, “It’s an all new season and we look forward a fantastic 2019 across the Poker Fabric in India. See you at the felts!”
