The virtual felts have dished out great value over the past week, and Friday was no different. In the spotlight was Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire X5. A marquee tournament offering of the brand, The Millionaire had made its inaugural run in September 2016 and was the first domestic tournament to assure a Million bucks to the winner. Manoj Pentakota went on to become the first-ever Millionaire, but there has been a slew of players who have gone on win this Spartan flagship tournament over the last three years where each subsequent edition has done better than the previous one.

Well, guess what, The Millionaire is back and this time with another exciting twist! The tournament is called The Millionaire X5 this time, and for a reason – the top five finishers of the tournament are each assured of winning at least ₹10 Lakhs each. The hunt for the five new millionaires began last night when Day 1A of the multi-day Millionaire X5 kicked off at 6pm. The first of three starting flights brought together an impressive 436 entries (251 unique, 73 re-entries and 112 rebuys), and only 66 among them managed to make the cut for Day 2. Coming out on top at the end of the play was a familiar name in Rajat ‘Garammasala’ Sharma. A well-known pro with an outstanding scorecard both live and online, Sharma was last seen at the Spartan Poker-sponsored India Poker Championship (IPC) in Goa, where he picked up two scores, his deepest run coming in the ₹100K High Roller where he finished 18th for ₹3.13 Lakhs. Sharma will begin Day 2 with a stack of 239,933. Trailing Sharma was Deepak ‘chimpoo’ Bothra (167,094) and ‘biglooser007’ (166,429). The next two starting flights – Day 1B and Day 1C play out tonight and tomorrow, while Day 2 will also commence proceedings on Sunday.

There was a lot going on at Spartan Poker yesterday and there were two other tournaments of interest held on the site, namely, The Elite ₹20 Lakhs GTD that culminated with ‘RohiniSharma’ taking home the title and top prize of ₹5.99 Lakhs and the TGIF ₹10 Lakhs GTD that saw ‘last chance’ taking down the title for ₹1.70 Lakhs.

Moving over to PokerBaazi, the Friday run of events was headlined by the FRY-YAY ₹10 Lakhs GTD where Ankit ‘d00mtr00p3r’ Wadhawan rose to the top of the field and won ₹2.20 Lakhs. It was a blockbuster day for Wadhawan yesterday as he won not one but two majors for a cumulative ₹4.11 Lakhs. His second deep run saw him taking down the Uppercut on PokerStars India for ₹1.91 Lakhs. The other prominent event on the site – Friday SuperStack ₹3 Lakhs GTD – was taken down by Prabhat ‘greatgatsby’ Paliya , who won ₹82,568.

Apart from Wadhawan, the other standout performer at PokerStars India was Sandeep ‘goldypaji’ Kaushal Kapoor, who shipped the Six-Max NLHE ₹2 Lakhs GTD for ₹27,096 after a three-way deal with ‘jacks_apart ‘ and ‘MG369’.

On Adda52, the Hexagram ₹2.5 Lakhs GTD was taken down by Sanjay ‘Floppednuts’ Kumar, who pocketed the winner’s paycheque worth ₹71,250.

The 9stacks’s StackUp @8PM ₹2.5 Lakhs GTD was championed by site regular Sanjay ‘WereWolf’ Taneja for ₹65,000.
