Aussie Million 2020: Daniel Mayoh & Ari Engel Win Titles

The 2020 Aussie Millions has come to a close after 21 action-packed days of non-stop action at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. The schedule featured 23 championship events, and the most prominent winner at the stop was local pro Vincent ‘Wonky’ Wan, who bested a field of 820 hopefuls to win the A$10,600 Main Event for A$1,318,000, courtesy a three-way deal.

Running alongside the Main Event were several side events, and some standout winners at these events were Daniel Mayoh and Ari Engel. Mayoh won his second Aussie Million Ring and the A$35,445 cash prize in the A$1,150 PLO High/Lo after defeating a field of 133 runners. Engel, on the other hand, claimed his third Aussie Million Ring at the A$2,500 NLHM event, outlasting a field of 299 contenders to win A$141,775.

Daniel Mayoh Wins Second Aussie Millions Ring

Daniel Mayoh was the last player standing in the $1,150 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi/Lo event! He defeated a field of 133 runners, including WSOP bracelet winner Michael Wang (runner-up for A$23,855) heads-up to bag a career-best A$35,445 ($24,369) as first-place prize money. This was his second Aussie Millions ring. He was awarded the first for taking down the A$2,500 H.O.R.S.E event in 2019.

The top fifteen finishers shared the A$136,325 prize pool with a min-cash worth A$2,045.

By the time the final table was formed, the prize money had increased to A$4,090. Benjamin Pockett was the first to be eliminated on the final table, followed by the 2005 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Hachem, who hit the rail in eighth-place for A$5,455.

Next in line was Alan Wuson in seventh-place for A$6,815. Sixth-place and A$8,180 went to Pierre Rodriguez. Rodriguez had incidentally busted in the same position at this event last year.

New Zealand’s Graeme ‘Kiwi’ Putt bowed out in fifth-place for A$9,545. German native Thomas Scholze crashed out in fourth-place for A$12,270 – his best live cash to date. Dylan Wilkerson went out in third-place for A$15,675, taking his lifetime earning to almost US$3.3 million.

Michael Wang and Daniel Mayoh locked horns in the heads-up play, and in the end, it was Mayoh who came out on top to walk away with the title and A$35,445 in cash prize. Wang settled for A$23,855 as a consolation prize.

Ari Engel Claims Third Aussie Millions Ring

Ari Engel toppled a field of 299 entries in the A$2,500 No-Limit Hold ’em event and defeated Eden Reyes (runner-up for $120,595) heads up to claim his third Aussie Millions ring along with A$141,775. Engel has a lot of history at the Aussie Millions. He had championed the Aussie Millions Main Event in 2016 and even won the A$1,150 Mix Max event last year.

The top thirty-two places were guaranteed a share of the $672,750 prize pool, while a min-cash was worth $4,710.

Some notables who cashed but failed to reach the final table were Mitchell Bognar (10th for A$13,120), Linda Currie (11th for A$11,100), and Stevan Chew (17th for A$7,400).

Neil Correa picked up his third cash this series and the largest of his career to date when he busted in the ninth-place for A$16,145. Richard Balkau was the next player to be eliminated and collected a career-best A$20,185. After Balkau, Fabian Gumz was eliminated in seventh place for A$25,230.

Rob Fenner pushed his lifetime earnings over the $450,000-mark with his sixth-place exit for A$31,955. Landen Lucas ran out of steam in fifth place for A$39,355 followed by French Native Paul Tedeschi, who collected A$52,140 as the fourth-place prize.

Petrit Abazi went out in third place, collecting A$65,595 to set up the heads-up play in motion between Ari Engel and Eden Reyes. As it turned out, Eden Reyes won his first six-figure prize of A$120,595 for his runner-up finish, while Ari Engel emerged victorious to win his third Aussie Millions ring along with A$141,775 in prize money.
