The 2019 Asian Poker Tour (APT) Finale Taiwan is now in the books! Running at the Chinese Texas Holdem Poker Association since November 28, the series entered the history books after declaring Dutch pro Tobias Peters (cover image) as the Championships Event winner! A renowned player in the international circuit, the Dutch pro ran past a field of 159 entries to clinch his career-first APT title, as well as a top prize of NT$1,848,800 (~US$ 60,500).

Peters had entered the final table with the sixth biggest stack and steadily made his way to top, defeating Japan’s Takao Shimizu heads-up to win the title. A relatively short-lived final showdown resulted in Peters claiming the APT Championships Event trophy and ring!

The Championships Event took flight on December 5 and logged in 132 entries (Day 1A – 54 and Day 1B – 78) by the end of the second starting flight. Twenty-seven more entries were clocked in at the start of Day 2, taking the total entry field to 159, which generated a prize pool worth NT$6,940,300 (~US$ 228,000).

The top 16 places were assured payouts, and the notables who made it in the money included Cheng Chao Ting (10th for NT$ 160,500), Alex Lindop (13th for NT$ 111,500) and Kelvin Beattie (15th for NT$111,500).

Taiwan’s Chang Yu Chang bubbled the final table, finishing ninth for NT$192,600.

Besides the Championships Event, the other marquee tournament at the series was the NT$33K Main Event, which was championed by China’s Zhou Yueyang. He was also named the ‘Player of the Series (POS)’ for raking up 970.12 points after shipping both the Main Event and the NT$77,000 High Rollers, as well as placing fourth in the WeLoveSport Super Deep Stack Turbo event. He received the APT Player of the Series 1st place Trophy, the APT Player of the Series Ring, an exclusive watch, and US$ 800 for his efforts.

Taiwan’s Chi Jen Chen (903.67 points) and Canada’s Peter Chien (762.21 points) finished second and third, respectively, in the POS race.

Other notable winners at the series were Zong Chi He (NT$ 11,000 Head Hunter Bounty Event for NT$ 176,900), Dong Guo (NT$ 55,000 High Rollers Single Day for NT$ 600,000) and Ori Kossonogi (NT$ 16,500 Monster Stack for NT$ 380,700).

Chi Ying Tsai as the first player to hit the rail. She shoved her short stack with and was called by Carlos Chang, holding . The latter flopped a pair of treys, eliminating Tsai in eighth place.

Former APT champion Neil Raine was busted when his fell prey to Chang’s , ending the former’s run in seventh place.

Soon after that, Japan’s Go Mori was dismissed by fellow compatriot Sera Ota in sixth place. Ota then went on to eliminate another former APT champion, Carlos Chang, in fifth place.

Ota claimed her third victim in Thailand’s Punnat Punsri. The latter’s were no match for Ota’s . The board bricked, and Ota’s ace-high won her the pot, knocking Punnat out in fourth place.

Despite playing so well, Sera Ota was eventually dismissed by Tobias Peters. Her were bested by Peters stronger , ending her dream run in third place.

The heads-up play between Tobias Peters (4,935,000) and Takao Shimizu (3,015,000) began with the former holding a slight edge over his Japanese rival. The match up lasted for about 20 minutes, and it was Peters who ultimately walked away with the top honors.

On the final hand, Shimizu moved all-in with , and Peters called with . The runout brought Peters a full house, relegating Shimizu to a runner-up finish. Peters collected his APT title, along with a top prise worth NT$ 1,848,800 (~US$ 60,500)!
