In what turned out to be a power-packed Sunday, we saw an incredible five tournaments at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam declaring champions. The most prominent of them all was the second featured event at the stop, the VND 6 Billion GTD Championships Event. It was this very event that had the Indian rail on the edge of their seats with well-known pro Dhaval Mudgal among the eight finalists in contention for the coveted title on the last day of play. Mudgal, who holds the distinction of winning the first-ever WPT Vietnam Main Event title last year, was chasing the top prize of VND 1,576,810,000 (~₹48.81 Lakhs).

In the end, it was France’s Vincent Chauve who lifted the trophy that came with the fat winner`s cheque after defeating Japan’s Go Mori heads-up. Mudgal finished third for VND 730,780,000 (~₹22.62 Lakhs)!

Chuave has been in spectacular form all week long and not content with a runner-up finish in the Main Event, he did one better in the Championships Event. With a top-two finish in the two biggest tournaments at the stop, Chauve collected a cumulative VND 1,576,810,000 (~₹48.81 Lakhs) for his deep runs – firmly placing himself on top of the APT POS points tally!

As for Mudgal, a deep run in another big-ticket event, especially after Akshay Nasa`s historic victory in the Main Event, set the expectations very high. He entered the final table in the second chip lead with 47 big blinds and got off to a flyer. There were a few setbacks along the way, but he made it all the way to the three-handed play where he was left struggling with a sub-10 bb stack. He got it in good holding ace-eight against Go Mori’s ace-three, but it was just not his day as the latter spiked a three on the river to deny Mudgal the title. He may have lost his chance at the title, but his efforts fetched him an impressive VND 730,780,000 (~₹22.62 Lakhs)!
