The Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam currently underway at Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City is heading towards a busy weekend. After a slow start in the VND 8 Billion (~₹2.35 Crores) GTD Main Event that saw a modest 45-entry turnout on Day 1A, the second flight did considerably better with 114 entries. The third and final flight is on the tap today and needs to bring in over 350 entries to avoid an overlay on the VND 8 Billion guarantee!
Three Indian players made it through the Day 1B flight. While the avid poker traveler Sumit Sapra (40,100) bagged the largest stack amongst the trio, PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot (31,100) and Gaurav Sood (30,600) were the other two Indians advancing to Day 2. Counting Day 1A qualifier Manoj Pentakota (45,100), this makes for a total of four Indians who have already progressed to Day 2.
While all four Indians are familiar names on the Asian circuit, Sapra is by far the most active among them. He had famously won the coveted Platinum Pass to the inaugural PSPC at APPT Korea last year. Giving the 2019 WSOP a skip, Sapra has instead preferred to play some Asian tours, and he was one of the early arrivals here from Team India. Even before entering the Main Event, Sapra had already collected his first score at the series, finishing 14th in the Dafabet Head Hunter VND 2 Million Bounty for VND 11,110,000 (~₹32,645)!
The series is awarding all winners Golden Lion event trophies this time and the latest players to win these were Vu Minh Tri (Dafabet Head Hunter), Linh Hoai Duong (PLO Omaha Hi- Single Day) and Christopher Mateo (Deep Stack Turbo #1).
Day 1C of the Main Event begins at 1 PM (ICT) today with late registrations open till the start of Level 10 on Day 2.
