An action-packed day at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam saw 204 survivors from the three starting flights of the VND 8 Billion (~₹2.35 Crores) GTD Main Event coming together for the first time on July 7. With late registrations open for the first hour of play, another 56 players paid up the VND 22,000,000 (~₹64,644) buy-in taking the total tally to 458 entries (340 unique players, 118 re-entries) smashing the guarantee with a prize pool collection of VND 8,885,200,000 (~₹2.61 Crores).

A group of six Indians led by Manoj Pentakota had advanced to Day 2 through one of the three starting flights, and Rubin Labroo became the seventh one in the field after registering directly on Day 2. Unfortunately, the majority of the team fell out of the event empty-handed with Pentakota and Labroo being the only Indians who managed to make the cut for Day 3 amid the 63 survivors.

Pentakota whose poker resume is dotted with numerous cashes from his exploits on the Asian circuit is chasing his first score at the ongoing series. He came into Day 2 holding 45,100 in chips – the largest stack among the Indian battalion and charted a steady climb that saw him bagging one of the largest stacks of the day. He was also responsible for eliminating fellow countryman Sumit Sapra in the last level on Day 2 with his ace-king dominating Sapra’s king-jack. He carries with him 413,000 (103 big blinds) that happens to be the fourth biggest stack heading into Day 3!

Labroo, who had earlier finished third in the Monster Stack #1, made good of his late entry closing the day with 203,500 chips (51 big blinds) for Day 3.

VND 8 Billion GTD Main Event – Day 2 Recap

Day 2 began with 204 survivors (Day 1A – 20, Day 1B – 56, Day 1C -128) and with late registration open for the first level of play, an additional 56 players ponied up the VND 22,000,000 (~₹64,644) buy-in resulting in a final field of 458 entries.

A band of six Indians was part of the trimmed down group, but a majority of them fell out empty-handed. Only two Indians, Manoj Pentakota (413,000 -103 big blinds) and Rubin Labroo (203,500 – 51 big blinds) are still in the running.

Pentakota`s name first popped up on the APT live coverage in Level 14 where he was reportedly holding 240,000 in chips. By the next level, Pentakota had added a lot more chips to his stack.

With only 10 minutes left on the clock on Day 2, Pentakota locked horns with fellow countryman Sumit Sapra, eliminating the latter with his getting the better of Sapra’s . Both players missed the board, and Pentakota eliminated Sapra to get to 420,000 in chips. He eventually bagged a stack of 413,000.

Labroo is the only other Indian who will be seen on Day 3. He was one of the 56 registrants on Day 2, and while his day went mostly unreported, he did win a massive pot in Level 12. Labroo had raised it to 2,600 from the cutoff and found callers in Guan Tian Liang and Guinara Heaver. Labroo put in a c-bet of 5,200 on the flop , and Liang made the call while Heaver folded. The turn was checked by Liang, but Labroo put in a sizeable bet of 25,500 forcing Liang to fold. Labroo won a decently sized pot eventually carrying with him a stack of 203,500 to Day 3.

The four other Indians, namely, Naviani Sumit Harikishan, Vaibhav Sharma, PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Munot and Gaurav Sood fell out empty-handed.

The top 46 places will be paid so there are still 17 eliminations to go before the money bubble bursts on Day 3. A min-cash is worth VND 38,200,000 (~₹1.12 Lakhs) with VND 1,892,170,000 (~₹55.75 Lakhs) reserved for the champion!

Leading the 63 survivors on Day 3 will be Malaysia’s Lee Boon Han who collected several big pots through the day and carries with him a stack of 431,000. Singapore’s Low Zi Cheng (427,500) and Hong Kong’s Tso Wei (424,000) round out the top three stacks in the field.
