The luxurious Paradise City poker room in Incheon, South Korea is currently playing host to the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Korea 2018 and the 10-day long series is now inching towards its conclusion as the highlight KRW1.8M Main Event is already past the two opening flights.
The Main Event smashed all records with the tournament recording a massive field of 449 entries (182 entries on Day 1A and 267 entries on Day 1B) making this the biggest poker tournament field in the country’s history. The top 52 places will share a piece of the KRW705,558,600 prize pool (~$659,000) with the winner set to walk away with a mammoth KRW158,700,000 (~₹96.57 Lakhs) top prize and the coveted PSPC Platinum Pass worth $30,000.
Notably, a second Platinum Pass was awarded via a three round flipout and guess who the lucky winner was? Well India`s globe trotting Sumit Sapra grabbed the Platinum Pass and with that he is assured of one more trip next year – this time to the Bahamas to play one of the largest tournaments i.e. PSPC.
Not just this, after busting Day 1A, Sapra fired another bullet on Day 1B and is among the top 10 stacks going into Day 2 with 189,900 in chips.
A total of 57 runners survived after the first starting flight i.e. Day 1A and after twelve 40-minute levels, 86 hopefuls managed to survive Day 1B so a total of 143 players return for Day 2. Leading the way is Day 1A chip leader – USA’s Scott Samuel Janik who starts his Day 2 grind with 307,500.
Other notables to make it to Day 2 include PokerStars team pros Randy ‘nanonoko’ Lew (125,400) and Celina Lin (54,800) along with USA’s Andrew An (188,800), Japan’s Iori Yogo (114,700), Singapore’s Bryan Huang (87,000), Japan’s Ken Okada (59,700), Taiwan’s Pete Chen (47,600) and Chen An Lin (13,800).
