The 2005 WSOP Main Event fifth-place finisher Andy Black (cover image) came out on top in the €230 buy-in Amateur Championship of Poker (ACOP), an open event at the ongoing Dublin Poker Festival on Wednesday.

The annual Dublin Poker Festival was born eight years ago and combines both the ACOP and the European Deepstack Poker Championship. The stop is being hosted by D4 Events at Dublin’s Bonnington Hotel.

The Amateur Championship logged in a strong field of 616 runners to make for a prize pool of €123,200 that was distributed among the top 79 places. Black was one of the most experienced players in the field, and he put all of that to good use to walk away with €18,150 following a three-way deal.

Black is a legend in the game and is known for his colorful life both on and off the felts. Before his breakout fifth-place finish at the 2005 WSOP Main Event that fetched him a career-best $1.75 Million in prize money, Black had made a life-changing decision to renounce all his worldly possessions to go live in a semi-monastic Buddhist environment for five years! Black returned to the game in 2004, and with this victory, he has claimed his 14th live title, getting within touching distance of $4.9 Million in lifetime earnings.

Final Table Recap

Konstantin Teresko fell first for what was his first tournament cash. Eoin O’Shea and Ciaran Burke exited next in eighth and seventh place, respectively.

Andrew Doona (6th place), and Charlie Porter (5th place) were dispatched next while Kurt Suarez settled for the fourth spot.

The three remaining players started discussing a deal and soon came to an agreement that saw them locking in a payday of €15,000 each with some cash left aside to be distributed according to the finishes.

Igor Matias hit the rail in third place, leaving Black and Sean Foley in contention for the title. In the end, Black knocked out Foley to win the trophy and €18,150 in prize money.
