Alberto Stegeman Takes Down Master Classics of Poker Main Event For €240,183

The Holland Casino Amsterdam played host to the five-day long 2018 Master Classics of Poker (MCOP) €4,300 Main Event which drew in 294 entries, collecting a prize pool of €1,164,240. Dutch award-winning journalist and TV show host Alberto Stegeman (cover image) upstaged several prominent names to win his maiden live title for a career-best score of €240,183.

More popular for his television persona, Stegeman is a recreational poker player who has total live earnings of $356,988. With this latest victory, Stegeman joins an elite group of poker players with MCOP Main Event titles which includes the likes of Noah Boeken, Robert Mizrachi, and Indian-origin Ram Vaswani.

Stegeman was one of the shortest stacks at the commencement of the nine-handed final table. He played aggressively orchestrating the eliminations of Henri Piironen, Joey Vittali, Teun Mulder to rise up the ranks and eventually defeated Kilian Kramer in the heads-up play to claim the title.

The MCOP Main Event was glittered with many well-known but only the top 44 received payouts. The notables among them were Vlada Stojanovic (10th for €19,909), Jan Eric Schwippert (12th for €16,649), Steve O’Dwyer (27th for €9,547) and Noah Boeken (33rd for €7,800).

The first elimination on the final table came by on the second hand of the day. Pascal Baumgartner moved all-in from big blind with and Kilian Kramer called with .The flop gave Baumgartner a pair of queens and Kramer picked up a flush draw. On the turn , Kramer completed his hearts flush and the river did nothing to help Baumgartner, as the latter made his exit in ninth place.

David Algarra had started as the shortest stack on the final table and as play progressed, Algarra`s stack kept dropping. Ultimately in a hand against Henri Piironen, Algarra jammed with and the latter snap-called with . The board ran out busting Algarra out in eighth place.

Almost two hours later, Danilo Velasevic shoved all-in for 80,000 from the hijack and Joey Vittali called from the small blind, while Kramer checked from the big blind. Vittali and Kramer checked down the board . Vittali turned over and Kramer mucked his cards. Velasevic turned over the which weren’t enough to prevent his seventh-place elimination.

In level 25, Jasper Meijer van Putten lost a big pot to Alberto Stegeman when the former’s were bested by Stegeman’s . Meijer van Putten was left with just 55,000 in chips and.the very next hand, he put all his chips in the middle against Vittali. The board fanned out . While Vittali picked up a pair of aces on the turn with , Meijer van Putten found no luck on the board with and exited in sixth place.

Down to five-handed play, Kramer limped in for 60,000 and Stegeman raised to 250,000 from the button. Henri Piironen moved all-in for 910,000 from the small blind, forcing Kramer to fold, while Stegeman quickly made the call.

The flop opened placing Stegeman in the lead. and completed the board but were of no importance to Piironen, who was ousted in fifth place.

Next to depart was Joey Vittali. Holding , Vittali shoved all-in for 805,000, following a raise of 130,000 from Stegeman, who called right away with .
